Masking Tape Works for Me

September 30, 2008

I love to use storage containers in my pantry. (And, well, pretty much anywhere else in the house, too.)

But sometimes it’s tough to tell what’s inside of those containers. And I certainly don’t want to confuse the sea salt with the sugar.

At first I used a fancy schmancy label maker to make everything look all nice and pretty. But then I ran out of tape and fell in love with a different type of tape: masking tape!

Using masking tape and a good ‘ol Sharpie makes labeling (and finding) anything in my pantry a snap. Plus, when the contents of a container change, it’s easy to change the label. And I can add Weight Watcher points to each container just as easily.

Masking tape has made its way out of my pantry and into the rest of the house, as well. All the art supply containers are labeled with masking tape… it’s easy to switch when I need a change and it’s helping the kids to put the words together with the supplies.

When we travel I often bring a roll and a Sharpie with me for labeling on the fly for kids clubs or indicating whose toy is whose.

But, back to the kitchen: I couldn’t use those storage containers without my masking tape. The pre-printed stickers never cover everything I want and then what happens when you wash? Masking tape is cheap, easy and very versatile. It works for me!

I LOVE this. I bought a fancy schmancy label maker too, but you’re right, wash it and weep, its all money down the drain (sorry, couldn’t resist). Masking tape it is! Blessings, Whitney

Great tip! I especially like the idea of writing the WW points on it (do I really want that snack right now?) :)

Thanks for stopping by.

Gotta love that masking tape – it’s right up there with duct tape!

I love the part about taking it in the car, we’re going on vacation next week and I just might take me a roll.

Love the masking tape! You can even get it in lots of cute colors, don’t ya know! I’m thinking I’m going to do a revamp of my cabinets and use your idea. Thanks!

I also use masking tape and a sharpie in the fridge for labeling left overs and the date or in the freezer for same thing. It works great. When left overs are gone, I rip off tape,, wash and re-use!

Duh! Hitting myself in the head. I have been thinking about getting a label maker, but you have definitely made it cheaper and so much easier. :D

I too am a big fan of the masking tape! Works great on those Rubbermaid bins of hand-me-downs I am saving until my little guy fits into the clothes.

Coming to you by way of Happy to Be at Home. This is a great tape. I use the expensive labels but that’s my anal retentive disorder. Masking tape is a good tip. I also mark expiration dates on things that I don’t go through quickly to make sure that everything is still good when I got to bake or cook something:-)
