Last night my husband came home from work and asked me about the witches brew on our counter.
It was actually my first attempt at making apple butter. But all that bubbling and brewing did make it look like one might think a witches brew might look.
The recipe said I should use 36 cups of unsweetened applesauce. Granted, I was to use 22 cups for the first round and then add the rest after about 12 hours of crockpot cooking, but that is a LOT of applesauce. Way too much for my 5 1/2 quart slow cooker.
So I did the best I could and poured in 18 cups of apple sauce and all the assorted spices and sweetener. And I hoped for the best.
15 hours later my apple butter wasn’t anywhere near applebutter consistency and I was ready for bed. I poured the apple butter into storage containers for the ‘fridge for the night.
This morning I poured it all into my 6 quart crockpot, added some apple sauce and cooked it ALL DAY LONG.
Yep. It’s still simmering. WIll I ever have applebutter?
Hopefully you will tune in tomorrow, And hopefully at some point tomorrow I will have the opportunity to taste fresh apple butter. And then learn how to can most of it…
