Now that I’ve got your attention, I’ll explain:
I’m really tired. And I should really be in bed sleeping. So I’d love to tell you all about the ladies’ discussion group I hosted tonight and all the interesting things we discussed about September’s reading topic of healthy eating. But I am exhausted.
So I’ll try to get back on that tomorrow.
But first a heads-up on the October topic: Finance.
Yep, ladies, this month your assignment, if you choose to accept it, is to read a book on finance or money. And, just like last month, feel free to stretch this as far as you’d like. The only rule is that you use this excuse to get yourself reading and expanding your mind.
Think about this one, pray about this one and try to pick a book by next Tuesday, October 14. I’ll post my choice then, as well as a little preview about it.

To get you started on your book selection (because this topic can be a bit intimidating) I’ve asked a financial advisor I know really well (okay, I’m married to him) for a few ideas:
- The Millionaire Next Door by Thomas J. Stanley and William D. Danko
- The Best Way to Save for College by Joseph F. Hurley
- How to Parlay your IRA into a Family Fortune by Ed Slott
And a book on micro-lending which is just interesting and makes you think:

I love this idea! The topic of money is so timely right now with the volatility of the markets. Thanks to your husband for the suggested reading. I plan to play along next week…

You know, I have been wanting to read some of Dave Ramsay’s stuff and just never gotten around to it (plus the former investment broker in me is worried some of my preconceived notions about money will come crashing around me if I start his stuff). This might be a perfect time to do it.
As to my other book. Hate it. HATE it. I regret spending $6 on it. Isn’t that sad? I’m going to try to finish it, but that task looks like a long shot.
What a timely topic. Thehappyhousewife.com listed a few books on her blog concerning money and finance… y’all might want to take a peek. Suzy Orman is another author you might want to read… she is like the female Dave Ramsey.
