A few bread recipes from the 144 family…

Not too long ago I spoke to a MOPS (Mothers of Preschoolers) group and some of the ladies have asked for a few of my bread recipes. I thought I should share them with anyone else who might be interested, as well.

These recipes are for a 2 pound loaf in my breadmaker.

Sometimes I let the breadmaker do all the work from start to finish. Often, though, I let the maker make the dough and then I bake it in the oven in a 12″ pan so that the bread is a more conventional loaf size and perfect for sandwiches.

If you choose to do that, once the dough is ready, take it out of the maker and braid it on a floured surface. Then place it in the baking pan, cover and let it rise for 45 minutes. Then bake for 25- 30 minutes in a 400 oven.

For all breads, I typically brush then with a bit of melted butter on top when they are finished baking.

And, I have to say a huge thanks to The Happy Housewife who inspired me to begin baking bread in the first place. I am so glad she helped me to make this change!

Now, on with the recipes:

4 ¼ cups bread flour

Basic White Bread

1 ½ cups water

4 ¼ cups bread flour

3 TBSP sugar

2 TBSP dry milk

2 TBSP butter

2 tsp active dry yeast

And a yummy sweet one: Apple Oat Bread

4 ¼ cups bread flour

1 TBSP sugar

1 ½ tsp salt

2 TBSP butter
