Salad Saturday #5: Tuna two-fer

January 31, 2009

I made a simple tuna salad this week, taking a packet of tunafish (in water, not oil) and combined it with:
a little fat free Miracle Whip
the equivalent amount of fat-free plain yogurt
crushed walnuts
chopped apple
Then after a big bike ride on Sunday I served it over romaine lettuce and spinach.

The next day I still had some [...]

Why all the details?

January 31, 2009

Scripture: Exodus 28-29
I’m taking a break from the regular SOAP format this morning because I have a question: Why did God set aside so many elaborate details for Aaron, his clothes, offerings and the like? There must be a good reason because it is in the Bible and a lot of space is dedicated to [...]

Sweet first grade humor

January 28, 2009

Last night my son saw a sweet potato on our counter and asked me what it was.
I told him it was a sweet potato.
He told me that when two regular potatoes are sitting next to each other, almost like they are kissing, then they are sweet potatoes.
Hmm. I never knew that!

Could I amaze with boldness?

January 28, 2009

Scripture: Acts 4:13
The members of the council were amazed when they saw the boldness of Peter and John, for they could see that they were ordinary men with no special training. They also recognized them as men who had been with Jesus.
Observation: Peter and John were regular guys proclaiming and doing extraordinary things. They did [...]

January 27, 2009

I’m searching for an easy, no-fail turkey barbecue sandwich/ sloppy joe-like option to serve via the crockpot this weekend. Anyone have any ideas? (I’m trying to go healthier by using turkey. But I still want it to be yummy.)
PLEASE comment or email any ideas you might have… I could sure use them!
(And if you are [...]

No more maggots from my manna

January 26, 2009

(I hope I didn’t gross you out with my title.  It is kind of icky.)
Scripture: Exodus 16:17-20
17So the people of Israel went out and gathered this food-some getting more, and some getting less. 18By gathering two quarts for each person, everyone had just enough. Those who gathered a lot had nothing left over, and those [...]

Salad Saturday #4… on Sunday

January 25, 2009

This week I used one of my favorite salad dressings EVER with some of the traditional stuff:

“What is all that healthy deliciousness?” you ask…
Red Lettuce
Spinach
Roma Tomatoes
A smidgen of yellow onion
and reduced-fat Feta Cheese (I still had some in the fridge so on the salad it went!)
I also sprinkled a chicken breast with an Italian seasoning [...]

When the storms don’t let up

January 23, 2009

Scripture: Exodus 7:3
But I will cause Pharaoh to be stubborn so I can multiply my miraculous signs and wonders in the land of Egypt.
Observation: I really want to get everyone’s attention, so I am going to perform lots of miraculous signs.
Application: If you are reading along (I still have free bookmarks with the reading [...]

No SOAP today

January 22, 2009

I am having such a hard time finding one verse to write about today. I have read and re-read (and re-read, and re-read and…)  today’s readings (Exodus 3-5 and Luke 22) and just don’t hear any ONE thing jumping out for me. Yes, there is a lot being said in both passages, but I cannot [...]

A reminder to spend time with Him

January 22, 2009

Scripture:  Psalm 88: 13
But I cry to you for help, O Lord;
in the morning my prayer comes before you.
Observation: This one’s pretty to the point, so I’ll just skip to the…
Application: My life has felt overwhelming lately. I have been exhausted and, consequently, over-sleeping And not doing my reading and SOAP’ing in the morning. Perhaps [...]
