B 90 Days SOAP: Guard your heart

Day 25 of the Bible in 90 Days

Scripture: I have two today.

1Kings 8:61 But your hearts must be fully committed to the Lord our God, to live by his decrees and obey his commands, as at this time.”

1Kings 11:4 As Solomon grew old, his wives turned his heart after other gods, and his heart was not fully devoted to the Lord his God.

Observation: At one time, Solomon was completely committed to the Lord, and was richly rewarded with wisdom and much more.

Yet he sought women whom the Lord had instructed the Israelites not to marry. These women worshipped other gods and so Solomon became sympathetic to the other gods and his heart was no longer fully for God.

Application: This story tells me to guard my heart completely and at all times. Satan can slip in an unsuspecting, seemingly harmless hairline-crack and create a huge split.

Prayer: Lord, guide me in keeping true to you and your plan for me. Please let me see my weaknesses and guide me in strengthening those so that the enemy cannot turn any part of my heart against you and your plans for me. You say you have good plans for me, and for each of your children. Please, Lord, keep me from deviating from your path. I want to follow you alone.

I loved how Solomon only asked for wisdom! That was such an unselfish request. This has really been a great adventure for me and my husband has seen changes in my character too. Oh and can I be added to the list of followers in the 90 challenge on the sidebar…many thanks!!

I agree with Heather – I’ve thought that often throughout the OT readings, how we women have been swaying men for ages. And I know I can get my husband to do things for me if I nag him enough or ask in a certain way, etc… but that’s not how it should be.

I also love how this applies to all Believers, to be firm in our faith and beliefs, because as soon as there’s an opening, Satan will creep in and steal us away.

    Thanks for this SOAP.

When I read about these great men of God who are brought down by their love of women, it causes me to remember how much power we, as women, have over men.

I need to make sure I am lifting up my husband and helping him in his walk and not being a stumbling block or bringing him down.
