Psalm 53: With Him, there should not be fear

bible-study-post

I certainly hope your week is off to a great start.

I’m looking forward to speaking later this morning at IBM’s Insight conference. We had rehearsals from the stage yesterday and, from what I have seen, today is going to be electric! I got goosebumps watching the opening video and wanted to stand up and cheer as it ended. There is going to be a live band, smoke machines, massive video screens and a fantastic opportunity to share about my business and our partnership with IBM Watson. I am so honored to have been invited to take part in the opening general session.

(If you are free today around 9 am Pacific, you can follow that link to the conference to create an account and watch me live.)

Before the two rehearsals yesterday, I listened to some music from Third Day on my phone as I walked through the hotel. Each time, I couldn’t help but giggle, thanking God for the opportunity and looking at all the people with event name tags around their necks, thinking that they would hear my story today. What an opportunity He has given me!

So now, here I am, getting ready to launch my day and, as you know I like to start with SOAP.

Here is what grabbed me in Psalm 53 when I applied SOAP:

Scripture: Psalm 53: 5

There they are, in great terror,

where there is no terror!

For God scatters the bones of him who encamps against you;

you put them to shame, for God has rejected them.

Observation:

With God, there is no terror– or else there shouldn’t be. He will fight the battles against those who are against Him and His people.

Application:

With God in your corner, there is no reason to fear. Focus on Him, listen to Him and He will conquer your enemies.

I don’t think this passage is saying life will be easy, but I do think it is saying that by keeping our focus on Him, He will guide us and help us to weather the storms. It goes on to talk about restoration later in the Psalm. So, even if you are in a storm, hold tight to your faith. In the end, those with Him will overcome.

Prayer:

Lord, thank you for inviting me to be on your side. Thank you for standing firm and always being here for me. Thank you for guiding me, in joyful times, and through the not so joyful times. Please, Lord, never let me lose sight of you. With you, there is no need for fear. You have me. That is comforting and, even more important than the comfort, that is your truth, and it is powerful.

Thank you Lord, for reminding me to push away fear. Thank you for reminding me that victory is possible with you.

Thank you, Lord, for the path you have set out for me. Please continue to guide me as I follow it. Help me to hear you as I take every step. And thank you so vey much for preparing me just for this moment, and the moments to follow. It’s going to be another great day filled with opportunities, thanks to you. Help me as I call out on your strength today as I take the stage and stay with me as I deliver my words. With you, there is no need for stage fright. I will be on the stage because of you. And you wouldn’t put me anywhere I shouldn’t be. Thank you, Father.
