Scripture: 1Timothy 4:7-8
7…Spend your time and energy in training yourself for spiritual fitness. 8Physical exercise is important, but spiritual exercise is much more important, for it promises a reward in both this life and the next.
Observation: Spend your time and efforts on the thing that really matters and will last: your spiritual health.
Application: There are a lot of things vying for my attention, time and efforts. But which of those are eternally significant? Perhaps I need to ask that question a bit more when evaluating my to-do list.
That is so easy to write and yet so hard to employ.
But I’ve got to do it. I feel like I’m letting too much get away undone or not done well.
And some of it should remain undone or not done well.
The eternal things are those that need to be done right. And that is all.
Prayer: Lord, please, please, please guide me in discerning what is eternal and what is not.
Show me what to carve away. Please make it obvious because I so easily get caught up in worldly priorities.
I don’t want that to be the case.
Show me your way and remind me. Keep holding my hand, and keep whispering or shouting in my ear.
I want to serve you and not the world. It is so hard, Lord to keep it all straight. But, with you I can do it.
So please guide me.
I need you. Help me to see and remember what I don’t need.
Thank you, Lord.
