Bible in 90 Days: Day 39 Check-in

If you are participating in the Bible in 90 Days challenge, today you are on Day 39 and should have read through the end of page 468 in the Bible in 90 Days Bible or through Psalms 24:10.

Today Jolanthe of No Ordinary Moments is sharing with us why she decided to join in the challenge and her impressions so far:

Before I get going, I’m going to preface this and the video below by
saying:

  • I don’t believe that I’ve ever seen myself blink so much in my
    entire life
  • I apparently have a tendency to talk a lot {who knew??}
  • There’s more to this week’s post below the video, so hang on!

One of the passages that we read/studied this week is one of my most
absolute favorite stories in the Bible ~ Esther. I’m not sure what it
is that draws me into the story so much. Maybe it’s the whole peasant
to queen storyline. Maybe it’s the overall analogy between Esther’s
relationship with the king and our relationship with God.

The preparation that Esther went through before she even met with the
king was intensive. Did you catch that it was one entire year?
{Esther 2:12} One year of preparation for one
nigh
t
. Her presentation to the king was nothing to be
taken lightly. There were many things for her to learn ~ the etiquette
of a queen, how to walk ‘just so’, how to exude a beautiful aroma that
would be pleasing to the king. It wasn’t a time where she just sat
around eating chocolates and playing games.

As Tommy Tenney says in his book Finding Favor With the King
{p.77} ~ “Every bridal candidate submitted to extensive preparation
to remove every odor, habit, blemish, or spot that would be out of
place before the throne of the great ruler.”
Basically,
Esther learned that it was important to please the king and do all that
would meet his needs ~ not her own.

Do you see where I am going with this?

My life isn’t all about me, me, me. It is meant to glorify Him and
please Him. He has redeemed me, covered me with His blood ~ and calls
me to be His bride. His princess. He longs for a deeper relationship
with each one of us. That doesn’t mean that I can just sit back and
enjoy the ride ~ relationship requires work. There are many
things in my life that need to be purified, refined and purged out
similar to the preparation that Esther went through. It isn’t always
quick and easy {in fact, sometimes it’s rather painful}. But I am so
thankful that {unlike Esther} I know already that my King has chosen me
and longs to be in close relationship with me. I won’t be sent to live
out my remaining days in a far away room in the palace, but will live
in His presence ~ forever.

Thanks, Jolanthe!

  1. Thanks for persisting!
I am about 10 days behind. But I have decided that if I read it in 100 days, that would still be great.
Going now to keep on reading.

  2. Psalms. Psalms. We finally hit Psalms. :) It’s like a lavender bubble bath after a long day. Refreshing. Relaxing. Calming. Peaceful. Ahhhhhhh

  4. I’m about 3 days behind. I really want to catch back up. I’ve lost my routine, and I need to get back into it! I’m worried about next month, when we go to my sister-in-law’s wedding during spring break. I need to make this into a habit!

  5. I’m still caught up and learning new things all the time. I did the Beth Moore study on Esther last year so reading that book again was like reuniting with an old friend!

  6. I’m checking in and am currently 2 days behind, but I’m determined not to get any further behind. I will try to catch up also.

  7. I didn’t post this week and I’m a day late checking in, but I’ll let you know where I am. As of Tues (Day 40) I have finished Day 35 and am about to begin Esther. I’m hoping to get some catch up done this week. Pretty sure I’ll have a post for next week. Hubby’s joined the challenge and determined to catch up! He’s currently reading Judges.

  9. I was really behind (started with me being sick and then it just snowballed) and got frustrated so I just stop reading. I plan to start reading again tomorrow with Day 40 and finish it out. I will not have read the bible in 90 days. But, I want to continue reading with the group. It is important to me and very insightful. My three favorite things about this (when I was reading) were growing closer to God , making Bible reading more of important part of my day and my 4 year old being excited to read her Bible with me.

  10. Checking in and all caught up!!!!!
I have been behind for the last 10 days or so, almost catching up only to fall further behind. If you are behind keep reading, you will get there. I love the story of Esther, what a wonderful example of bringing it to God before reacting on emotion.
Praying for all of you that are behind, praying for peace and perseverance
    Hugs – Melissa

  11. Reading on schedule. I ‘m excited everyday to read God’s word.

They are more precious than gold, than much pure gold; they are sweeter than honey, than honey from the comb. By them is your servant warned, in keeping them there is great reward.
    Psalm 19:10-11

  12. I am up to date with my readings. I enjoyed it all this week, but really enjoyed Job. I was reminded of the greatness of God. He holds the universe in place and is above all else. I am looking forward to reading through Psalms.

  13. I haven’t quite gotten to Psalms yet but I’m working on it, so I’m about 1 1/2 or 2 days behind. I read the tweet up after it happened since I’ve been working tonight. I’ll definitely catch up before long and am still enjoying the experience. Thanks as always for the encouragement.

  14. I still have to do todays reading so I have hit Psalms yet. I’m enjoying the reading again and really enjoying everyone’s really insightful posts.

  16. Still hanging on with the challenge. Got VERY behind while sick the past two weeks, didnt think I could catch up, glad I didnt give up SINCE after an hour and or so tonight, I will FINALLY be caught up again!!!! Oh and I hope to NOT do that again! Thanks for the encouragment to ” just keep reading” because it worked, I’m back on track , when I could be be saying I didnt make it. :)

If your behind, just add another fifteen minutes, in the middle of your day, to read four or five more chapters, and before you know it, you’ll be caught up!

  17. On the one hand, I am about 10 days behind schedule. I’m thinking about adjusting to picking up where I am at and just moving forward from there. I have continued to keep reading and I have read more than I have managed to read on any other plan. It has been very helpful to just read and keep reading through, kind of like an overview. Even if it takes me longer than 90 days, I will still be much more likely to finish it at least once this year!!! It’s kind of like Flylady would say, “You are never behind, just jump in where you are”. It helps me not get defeated.

  18. I’m up to date! Yipee! I did a lot of catching up on my travels to and from Blissdom.

I absolutely LOVED meeting you, by the way! You are a DOLL!

  23. I was a day behind last week, but I was able to catch up. Yeah! I find that just doing the reading takes up my time so that I don’t really get to listen to the weekly lessons or blog about it or anything, but that’s okay.

I really enjoyed Esther. I read most of it aloud to my 4yo son who had never heard it. I also enjoyed shortening and telling him Job in my own words. I am reading through the Psalms with two focuses – noting ones that would be good for me to pray and also looking for ones that would be good to memorize as a family. I have quite a list of both already!

My husband commented today that he is seeing the benefits of my doing this challenge. He commented that while there have been a few times I have not been available to watch tv together or other similair things, because I was reading, those times have thankfully and intentionally been few and far between. He also said that I seem to be more aware of and effiencient overall with my time. He noticed that I have more love, joy, peace, patience, etc. with my children which results in them better behaving and an overall better climate. Praise God!

I NEVER thought this would happen to me! I am sooooooo far behind! But I will try to catch up with reading the Bible in 90 days after I get my normal life back ;) Everyone else seems to be doing so wonderful I know they feel good about themselves for sticking with the not so exciting times of the Bible! YOU GO GIRLS!!!!

  26. Just quickly checking in to let you know that I’m still reading and still up-to-date! :) DH is is in the middle of day 38, but is hoping to catch up tonight after all our lil darlings are in bed! :)

  27. I am almost done with Day 37’s reading, so I am a couple of days behind. I definitely agree with the others, that keeping up is SO much easier than catching up!! Had a rough week last week….hubs working alot, I was sick with strep throat, and had a birthday party at the end of the week. Alot going on, which knocked my routine out the window! I will catch up!!

  28. Plan on joining in Twitter talk tonight. I am WAY behind, but am trudging along. I am more on a 2 yr schedule at the rate I am reading. Sure causing lots of questions. Things I never questioned before are coming up… .. don’t know if this is good or not. Wish I could have gone to Blissdom & met lots of you in person. Look forward to the conversation tonight.

  29. I am caught up with the reading through todays and am really liking that I’m not behind like last week. I too love the story of Ester. Hoping to get a blog post up later tonight with my thoughts. God bless – Holly

  31. I’m enjoying the reading very much, but I feel as though I don’t know as much as everyone else. This is a new thing for me and although I’m learning a LOT, I still don’t get out of it as much as some of you. I need someone to discuss it with, someone who knows what’s up. The Twitter chat helps, but it is hard to have a real discussion of the readings.

Psalms has been easier for me to really understand what the message is and that’s exciting.

I am so glad to have started this, but I’m excited to finish the challenge and do some thorough study!

  32. What a great experience this has been! I really had planned to blog my way through it but there’s just no way. I am, however, taking copious notes and loving the way God is showing me new ways of viewing Scripture … and I’m growing in my understanding of others as well. So much to learn and apply. I’m still on track … but I really think it helps that I was already in the habit of getting up 1.5 hrs before my family to spend time in the Word and in prayer. I’m not using any other sort of devotional or study material because the reading is taking so much time but it’s been good just to read the Word … without trying to answer any questions or even to read someone else’s thoughts on the Scriptures as I go.

  33. I too am still trying to catch up! I agree w/ Lyn that catching up is harder than keeping up! I am still determined to do this and complete the challenge with everyone else!

    1. Catching up is hard… One of the times I did this I got so far behind and was REALLY frustrated, but I did eventually catch up. You CAN do this. I’ll be praying for you and all the others in your situation. Don’t let yourself get overwhelmed. Just keep reading and listening.

  36. It’s funny to me. Esther is one of my favorite books in the Bible, but I felt strongly moved to write about Job over the weekend. That surprised me because it’s never been one of my favorite books (explained in my post). My week’s off to a rocking start with this, but I’m behind with work (I blame the game last night — sigh).

  37. I agree with Jolanthe ~ Reading the Bible quickly in larger sections is helping me see things better as a whole. While I’ve read the Bible through before, this method makes me see things differently.
