Bible in 90 Days: Day 53 Check-in

If you are participating in the Bible in 90 Days challenge, today you are on Day 53 and should have read through the end of page 636 in the Bible in 90 Days Bible or through Isaiah 66:18.

This week Monica from Daily Dwelling shares her thoughts and experiences on reading the Bible in 90 Days…

I was sitting in the recliner in our sunroom reading when I heard the pitter-patter of little feet coming downstairs.

It was one of my four year old daughters, coming down for some cuddle time.

I welcomed her to climb into my lap and readjusted my Bible in 90 Days book so that I could hold her and still continue my reading.

She sat for a long time without saying anything.

And then she started to talk and squirm.

And I continued my attempt to finish the day’s reading.

Then she looked over at the book that I was balancing and asked, “What book is that? What is it about?”

I replied by telling her that I was reading the Bible.

And then I explained to her that the Bible is about God’s love for us.

It hit me as I began to simply explain this to my four-year old sitting in my lap that the reason why this time has been so important is because it has given me a true feel for what the Bible as a whole is really about.

There are days when it is hard to take in so much in one sitting…

Days when I want to dissect God’s word and examine it more.

Days when I want to focus on just one verse or one small passage.

Days when reading twelve whole pages of God’s Word seems like a monumental task.

But through persevering through those days and continuing on this journey I have read over half of the Bible straight through.

I have seen the failures of man and God’s forgiveness demonstrated time and time again.

I have gotten a feel for the whole message of the Bible….for what it is really all about:

God’s unconditional, unwavering, undeniable love for each and every one of us.

And I am excited to continue this journey as I continue reading and learning about God’s love through the prophecies of the Old Testament and then on into the New Testament where Christ is born, lives as man, is crucified, buried and resurrected all so that we may receive the forgiveness that none of us really deserve.

What about you? Are you reading with us and, if so, what are your thoughts on reading the Bible, cover to cover, in this manner?

And how are you doing in the reading? Please leave a note and let us know where you are and how you are feeling about that.

Leaving a comment helps others to see just how many others are reading with us and learn from your experiences, too. So, please, leave at least a quick check-in comment if you can.

If you have a blog post to link up, please do. Be sure to leave a link on your post back to this post so those reading your blog might be able to see who else is joining in on the journey.

After linking or commenting, please pick two or three other commenters and pray for them by name. Then consider listening to Jack Modesett Jr.’s week 8 audio message if you haven’t, yet.

  1. Just wanted to let you know that I finally got caught up last night! Such a good feeling to not be behind. Now, I just need to keep reading, so I don’t get behind again.

  2. Not caught up but I’m Isaiah so not too far behind. Working on it everyday. Look forward to being back in on the tweet up next week – maybe I’ll be caught up again by then!

  3. Sorry I haven’t commented the last week or two. I’ve stayed consistently 1-2 days behind. We had 3 snow storms in about 10 days and all my kids (and husband) were home lots of that time which cut into my routine. :( I’m working to catch back up. I do like reading the bigger chunks to get the bigger picture. It really makes sense seeing things in a whole different light.

  4. Just found your blog today. I really enjoy your writing style. It is very homey and comfortable to read. My 5 kids are almost grown, but I can remember the days when our experiences were much the same as yours.

  5. I am up to date! This has been such an amazing journey…just amazing. I knew it was going to be a blessing, but it has exceeded my expectations. And it has been even better having friends to share the experience with.

  6. I am caught up (barely) and still really enjoying this journey! Looking forward to getting more into the prophets coming up!

  7. I am two days behind, but that’s ok because of the two freebie days on the schedule! I just can’t miss any more days. :)

I’m really enjoying this challenge, though Isaiah is a bit hard. Psalms was actually easier than I expected. I can’t wait to reach the New Testament!

  8. I am right on track. Yeah! I am glad to be through the poetry books because those were hard to read so quickly, but I find the prophets difficult to read through quickly because of the depth there. Sometimes I just feel bogged down.

  9. I’m about halfway done with today’s reading. I have Bible study tomorrow and still have to do my homework for it, so I’ll probably finish today’s tomorrow. I got a couple days behind this week as we were out of town visiting family, but was able to get caught up Sunday. Parts of Isaiah have been difficult. Others have been very encouraging. I started listening to the week 8 lesson today while working out. It was great. I hope to finish it and listen to all the lessons – if not while I’m doing the challenge then afterwards.

  10. I am horribly behind, but I am still plugging away. Even if I finish in 100 days, it will still be an accomplishment (but my goal is to do it in 90 days).

I am a couple of days behind but I will catch up in the next couple of days. I am glad to be out of poetry as well those are harder for me to follow although I know many people love them. God is so good always faithful to us :) We are in the process of buying a house!

  12. Well, I’m behind again. I’m in the middle of Day 51, but reading and trying to catch up.

  14. The last week has been a struggle. I fell 3 days behind at one point but now I am only 1 day behind. I’m hoping to get caught back up tonight.

I really enjoyed Monica’s post. IT IS the story of God’s unconditional love for us. Why didn’t I think of that?

This whole experience has been so great. I’ve learned so much already, not only from reading the Bible, but from the chats and from reading others blog posts about it. Makes me realize even more, how much I need to find a church.

  15. David and I are still here and still on track with our reading! (We are already talking about when we are going to do this again!!!) :)

I love what Monica said in today’s post because it is exactly how I feel too–that reading at this rate gives me such a sense of the “big picture” of the Bible–one I had never experienced when dissecting books of the Bible individually. (Not that I don’t love that level of intense study too.)

  16. Still here and still reading. Isaiah makes so much more sense now that I know what period of history it was written in. I find myself referring back to Kings and Chronicles from time to time to remind myself what was going on in Israel and Judah at that time. What is neat is that this is one book my bible scholar husband hasn’t studied so I can actually tell him a thing or two for a change!

  17. I need to complete today and I am on schedule. Isaiah wasn’t as bad as I feared, it has its chapters which are a little harder to read. I am just in awe that I have made it this far.

  18. Wow! It’s been such a journey, I started off so good, some days even ahead. However, after the birth of my son (#4 of the bunch) it’s been pretty hard to keep up. I’m not discouraged but do get a bit upset with myself when I’m almost caught up then fall back again. I keep thinking I refuse to give up even though it has come across my mind but I know that I can do it, I have never read this much and it takes discipline and good time management. I’m up to Day 49 which isn’t so far behind but by the grace of God I will be right where I need to be. Thanks for the encouragement and prayers.

What has happened? I was doing so great then we moved, I got behind (ugh), and I got further behind and now I am trying to catch up! I am bound and determined to Graduate with my class in March!!

  20. I’m still on track. Feeling tired today, and always find Isaiah to be difficult reading, but I’m hanging in there.

Will try to be at the chat tonight. Final grades due by midnight and that has to come first today.

  22. I’m right on track….and LOVING it!
I’ve enjoyed reading straight through 1 Samuel, as I’ve been listening to a sermon series on it (2 or 3 verses at a time!) Big pictures are GOOD!

    Enjoying YOUR blog, too!

    Just finishing today’s reading.
Like Teri, glad to be in the books of prophecy and looking forward to Jeremiah. Really enjoyed Isaiah read in big sections like this. I think I can only handle a couple of verses of Proverbs a day, so that was difficult.
Tracy, keep reading! Don’t give up! Just keep at it! Even if you are not on the 90 day schedule.
Thanks, Monica for this statement” “God’s unconditional, unwavering, undeniable love for each and every one of us.”

  25. I’m right on track with reading. It’s definitely not always easy to fit in the daily reading and sometimes I have to catch up the next day if I didn’t finish the previous day, but I really an enjoying seeing the big picture of God’s word. It’s totally worth making the time to do this.

  26. I’m catching up… slowly but surely, I’m getting there.

  27. Caught up and SOOOO glad to be out of the poetry!! :) I love reading the prophets … and Jeremiah is one of my favorites so I’m excited to get there tomorrow.

  29. I have missed the boat on this one like the idea of reading bible in 90 days. I started cover to cover last year and if I had stuck at it would like some of our church be finishing tomorrow night that makes me sad that I failed the simplest of challenges to read the word of God that he gave to make our lives better.

    1. You are not alone… it is a tough challenge!

Why don’t you consider doing it with our next group that begins July 1?

To get in the habit, just start setting aside a regular Bible reading time now. You could use this plan to get you going: http://www.faithbridge.org/clientimages/41389/biblereadinginayear.pdf
Just jump in on tomorrow’s date and switch to our 90 Day plan July 1.

  30. I will try to do the tweet-up this week. It seems like something always comes up. While I am now caught up with the reading, it seems like the reading is getting more difficult as we go along. I’m enjoying the scripture, but being consistent is more difficult now than it was in the beginning. At least, it is for me…

On a positive note, I have a bunch of scriptures written down for later study. :)
