Bible in 90 Days: Week 1 (July-October 2016 Read-through) #B90Days

b90-check-in

Welcome to the first check in post and the first week of the Bible in 90 Days with MomsToolbox!

I am thrilled that you have made the decision to read the entire Bible, cover to cover, in 90 days with me. Together, and with God, we can and will have read the entire Bible by October 15. (Wooo-Hooo!)

If you’d rather read chronologically, it’s not too late. Click over to join Carrie’s Bible in 90 Days chronological reading group now.

Today is our first day of reading, and our first weekly check in.

Each Monday morning I will post a check in post like this one to help you get ready for the week ahead of you and check in with others. The weekly check in post will also have helpful hints and updates to the program, so be sure to read it every week. I’ll try my best to keep it simple so as not to take away from your Bible reading time.

How and why must you check in?

I have guided thousands through reading the entire Bible in 90 days and have found that those who check in by commenting have a much greater success rate.   A simple “I’m up to date,” or “I’m 2 days behind, but plan to catch up by Wednesday,” will work. Some weeks I may ask a specific question for you to answer about your state of mind. (no quizzes, I promise!!) The important thing is that you acknowledge where you are and share that with the others reading. It might not seem like a big deal, but it really is.

If you’d like to tell us a little about yourself so you can ‘meet’ the members of our group here in the comments, feel free. You can also leave prayer requests and comment as you pray for others who have requested prayer.

This week’s resources

Download the following 3 sections of You Are Here in the Bible:

To prevent you from doing research where you have questions and take away from your precious reading time, Bible in 90 Days founder Ted Cooper wrote this resource to give you a bit of perspective as to what you will encounter in this week’s reading. If you have other questions, try not to research them, but just ask God to explain when the time is right and keep reading. If you must, keep a journal of all your questions to refer to once you have completed the 90 days of reading.

This week’s reading schedule:

  • Day 1– Genesis 1:1 – Genesis 16:16
  • Day 2–Genesis 17:1 – Genesis 28:19
  • Day 3– Genesis 28:20 – Genesis 40:11
  • Day 4– Genesis 40:12 – Genesis 50:26
  • Day 5– Exodus 1:1 – Exodus 15:18
  • Day 6– Exodus 15:19 – Exodus 28:43
  • Day 7– Exodus 29:1 – Exodus 40:38

You can also download the Bible in 90 Days reading schedule or, if you are using the official Bible in 90 Days Bible, you already have it marked in your Bible.

Make it a point to read every day no matter what, even if you don’t have a block of time, read something. Carry your Bible with you everywhere throughout the day (or read it on your phone) until you get your reading finished. Plan on it taking about an hour to an hour and fifteen minutes per day.

Thanks so much for reading with me. Your reading encourages my reading… and I really appreciate that.

Soooo, ready to check in?

Leave a comment below this post and let us know how it’s going. Since today is our first day, why not just confirm that you are in and perhaps tell us why you decided to read with us this time?

  1. Hello…Im staying on schedule every day! Im listening to God’s Word on BibleGateway and reading along! Im loving this time with God everyday! Thank you for encouraging us!

  2. I did this with you last time you did it and finished on time. This time will be a bit trickier as it is my ” busy season”. Plus here I am starting late. But prayed about it, and I’m in! Glad to be here.

    1. Yay! I’m glad you’re back! It’s going to be busy for me, too– but we can do this!

  3. I’m two days late, but I’d like to be in. Please pray for me as I work towards following Jesus more closely.

    1. Will definitely pray for you!
Two days late is nothing… you can do this. One bit of advice– try to get caught up by Sunday if at all possible, rather than keeping yourself 2 days back. :)

Just a rather long comment about my first day reading and the format (s) I chose to read in.

I am reading from “The names of God bible” which lists the many allegedly original names of God. (There are over 75 names) and I am also reading from the NOT parallel study bible.

I am doing this because I have found that each book condenses and might leave things out that the editor did not consider relevant to the narrative*

I might go back to the KJV for this readon:

Genesis 10: 3 list the lineages of Noah’s 3 sons but omits the part of the scripture that says Japeth’s descendants are gentiles.

This is a serious omission because there have been scholarly debates of going about who is a gentile due to the Askenazhads or Ashkenazi Jews being descended from Janet’s line.

This would mean some of the most perceived orthodox Jews may have originally been Gentiles.

Even some in the Jewish faith have either protested the lineage of the Ashkenazi Jews or outright stated that they were converts to Judaism and we’re not either directly descended or intermarriage into that bloodline.

My concern led me to discuss this with my husband about things omitted or rearranged from scriptures lately.

He says there are already bible versions that do not reference homosexuality or how God views it and that in the future the bible will be subourned to the point that it is not the bible at all.

Anyhow, I now plan to read my God’s name bible AND the KJV and where key texts have been removed, Mark up my everyday bible so that zip know there is a bit more to the text than my Bible now has.

    2. I’m glad you are reading with us, whichever translation you choose. :)

  5. I’m so very happy your hosting this again! As one of the other commenters mentioned…Life happened last time and I gave myself grace and I’m ready to accomplish this now!!!

    1. Awesome! I’m so glad you are going for it with me again. And, honestly, even if you didn’t finish last time, I bet you still got some good stuff just spending that much time in His Word. This time, I hope you DO make it all the way to the finish line with me, though. :)

I’m in! Starting with determination to hear him speaking and listening to his word.

    1. Woot WOOT!

  7. I’m in. Finished my reading today. I’ve done this before but only made it through Jeremiah before….LIFE…..but there will ALWAY be LIFE, so I’m starting again. I’ve been craving it!
I’m a substitute teacher/book reviewer/chronic volunteer with 3 teens/tweenagers. I live in small town Iowa. Would love all your prayers to keep me focused. Our house is completely being remodeled right now and we are living in pure chaos….beds torn apart, no flooring, dust EVERYWHERE. I need something constant right now.

    1. Yowza– sounds pretty crazy, but like a lot of promise is just around the corner. ;) I’m glad you are IN!

  8. I’m in! I always quit at this and I don’t want to be a quitter! Looking forward to the group :)

    1. No quitting this time. :)
      I’m glad you’re going for it! :)

I tried this on my own and could not get past Levitt customers.

I’m thinking being more accountable will help. I will also be doing a modified Daniel fast for the duration combining reading with a nutritional housecleaning!
