Welcome to Week 2 of the Bible in 90 Days with MomsToolbox!

Whether you are up to date or a few days behind schedule, congratulations for having one week of Bible in 90 Days reading under your belt! Woo-HOOO!

I’ll ask you to check in at the end of this post. Keep reading to find out how. But first…

Where did you read this week?

This is a LOT of reading.  Fitting it into your schedule can be a a bit of a challenge. My strategy this time is to read using a Kindle app on my iPad (or phone) so that I can read just about ANYWHERE…  and I sure did that this week. I’ll call this my Planes, Trains and Automobiles week. Here’s how it went:

  • On Day One I read while eating dinner alone on a gorgeous patio restaurant along the South Bank in London.
  • I read on Day Two in the taxi on the way to Paddington Station taking me to the airport, finishing up on the train.
  • For Day Three I read on the train in Paris on the way to a meeting and then read a bit more on my way back to the hotel after the meeting and got a bit ahead. (Woot!!)
  • Day Four I actually read Day Five’s assignment on the airplane on the way to Madrid.
  • On Day Five, I read Day Six’s assignment on the airplane taking me back home. (WOO-HOOO!!)
  • Since I was ahead, and a bit jet-lagged, I didn’t read on Saturday.
  • Sunday I read the Day Seven reading on my living room couch while everyone else in my house slept. It was rather peaceful!

I share this with you because I am finding that reading the Bible is a fantastic way to redeem waiting time. Travel won’t stop me from meeting this challenge!

In the past I posted SOAP posts nearly every day of the reading, but this time I am just soaking everything in, and not so worried about finding one message each day.

If this is your first time reading the Bible in 90 Days, I’d like to stress that you should try your best to focus on JUST READING. Yep, I said that. Don’t worry about journaling each day. Don’t worry about hearing a specific message every day. Don’t worry about understanding or remembering everything. Don’t try to change your life in a major way in these 90 days. Instead, just LISTEN to what He is sharing with you as you read and soak it in.

That being said, if something jumps out and GRABS YOU, feel free to make note of it somewhere.

As I was reading the assignment for Day Five, this is what grabbed me, and it grabbed me more than anything else any of the days:

The Lord is my strength and my song;

he has become my salvation.

He is my God, and I will praise him.

Exodus 15:2

With all my travel the last 11 days (4 countries and lots of meetings!) people often asked how I was maintaining my energy level and wasn’t exhausted. Well, I think that verse pretty much says it: It was pretty amazing how He held me and energized me. He truly IS my strength and my song, and He never ceases to amaze me. I love seeing that, and leaning on Him.

I’m super proud of you for committing to this amazing challenge to spend three months in His Word, pursuing the task of reading every single word of the Bible. It’s a big job– but it is SOOOO worth it. Actually, any moment spend in the Word is worthwhile, so don’t beat yourself up too much if you’re struggling. The most important thing is to keep reading. Lean on Him. Ask Him to help you. He can be YOUR strength, too.

Week Two is usually where new readers get challenged and begin to struggle. The ‘shine’ of the challenge starts to wear off and the time begins to add up. Plan ahead to beat that before it gets you. Where will you read this week? When will you read this week? Will you read every day? Every morning? In line at the supermarket as a backup? Think about it. Pray about it.. and GO FOR IT!!

Here’s what else you need for the week ahead:

OK. Got behind as this is my road trip time of year and almost weekly I add several thousand miles to my car. But enough excuses, I am in Deuter on my 2:12. Amy has contacted me and it was enough for me to go out to my car and root out my Bible. So here I go…endeavoring to stay on track…

  2. Hi Guys,

I’m a little late, just found Amy’s website. I have started the B90 last autumn but had to give it up, a family crisis but now that is over would like to take it up again. It would be great to share with everyone and have some accountability. I’m starting a theology bachelor degree this autumn and would love to read the bible cover to cover for the first time before school starts.

I hope no one will mind if I join. I stopped at the start of Deuteronomy so I am about the same place you are at.

    On schedule

    1. Awesome! Keep it up!

  4. I’m right on track! I’m doing it right when I wake before the kids wake up but I’m open to reading during the day when pockets of time arise! It will change in a few weeks with work and school starting back. Great work everyone!!

    1. Fantastic! Since I’ve been back home, the mornings are better for me, too. :)

  5. I am right on schedule. I have been listening on BibleGateway and reading along in my Bible. Really enjoying my time with God!

    1. Yay! I’m so glad to read this! Keep it rolling! :)

  6. I haven’t read today’s reading, but have caught up from starting late. 😊

    1. That’s great! I’m glad you joined us!

  7. I am on schedule. I got behind on Friday, but caught up Saturday and Sunday. Even though I read Genesis and Exodus before, I still found things that caught my attention that I didn’t remember from before. For example, in Noah’s story it never said that people made fun of him for building the ark. Maybe it does in different versions, but I found it interesting that in my reading (NIV) it didn’t mention it. But, of course, it is in all the versions we read to our children.

My favorite verse from this week was Exodus 14:14 (although I also marked Amy’s verse too)

“The Lord will fight for you; you need only to be still.” Usually when I am struggling with something I’m constantly trying to find answers or am anxious about the resolution. This is a good reminder to just be still and let God fight the battle for me.

I too have done all my reading on my phone or iPad. It has made the reading available whenever I have free time and much more portable. It has also been freeing to know I can just read and highlight when I want without feeling like I need to journal or take notes. I did that last time and became very overwhelmed.

Keep at it everyone. If you get a bit behind, stay with it. You can find pockets of free time to try to catch up. Don’t stop reading! Maybe it will take you 100 days instead of 90. That’s ok. Just keep reading!

    1. I always find new things EVERY TIME… it’s so amazing!

I love the Exodus verse that grabbed you. So often I want to fight my fights when I need to just sit still and let HIM do it. Thanks for sharing that one. (I”m going to write it down as a reminder once I tap ‘reply!’)

And thanks for your encouragement to everyone. :)

  8. I’m right on schedule. So far I’m doing my best when I read right after breakfast. I like getting it done as early as possible before my day gets crazy.

    1. Perfect! And I totally agree with reading before the craziness sets in!
