Blogging Through the Gospels: Matthew 9

The reading for Monday is Matthew 9.

When it is time to read, please start first by praying and thanking God for His many blessings. Be specific.

Next present your requests to Him. Ask Him for whatever you want and need.

Third, ask Him to guide you in your reading, so that you will hear his message for you today.

After you read, record your SOAP observations and then listen for three minutes. Set a timer and just  listen to what he might be sharing. Don’t ask. Don’t thank. Just listen. (You can pray more after you listen, if you like.)

Here is what I heard in the reading:

Scripture: Matthew 9:38

Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into his harvest field.”

Observation:

God knows that more workers are needed to share his message and love. Ask Him to send more workers.

Application:

I need help in sharing the Bible in 90 Days program on MomsToolbox twice a year. I could not do it without our amazing, dedicated mentor team and I am so thankful God brought each of those women to me so we could harvest together.

God recognizes that I need help. And perhaps He is telling me to ask for help with this, too.

Yesterday Sam posted a guest SOAP post. Perhaps God is telling me to ask for more help.

Before I began reading I asked, as I have asked so often especially lately, that God would give me discretion in figuring out my real to do list. I asked Him to show me how to get done what should be done to do His will. And now He says to ask for workers.

Here goes: Would any of you like to be a guest SOAP poster on MomsToolbox? If so, He would like for me to ask you to be one and I would love to host you. If so, please email me using my contact button. I can give you the reading assignment for a date in the future and we can talk about the details of guest posting.

Or, if you see another way you would like to help in the harvest either with Blogging Through the Gospels, Blogging Through the Bible in 90 Days/ Bible in 90 Days or anything else, let’s chat. And let’s bring in that harvest!

Prayer:

Wow! Thank you God!

At first when I read, I was searching, searching, wondering what you had for me, wondering which message was mine for today and then, BAM!, you hit me with that one on my third read-through.

You were answering my call for help all along. I can’t wait to see what help comes my way.. and how, if at all, I can help anyone else who might be seeking. Please, Lord send the workers. Help us to grow a team for you to serve in the ways You intend for us to serve. I am so excited to see what happens next.

Thank you!

What did YOU hear today? Please let us know in the comments, either by leaving your thoughts or a link to a blog post about what you heard.

Thanks for reading and listening with me. And don’t forget to let me know via email if you’re up for helping in any way.

  1. The harvest caught me too! It throws me so out of my comfort zone to speak to others about coming to Christ, when that is the one thing that seems most important for me as a Child of God. I have a feeling God is just cooking up a way to smash my comfort zone. I pray that He prepares me, but he wouldn’t throw me into it if he wasn’t going to be there with me.

  2. I blogged about verse 36, Jesus having compassion. Such a great God we serve!

  3. Matthew 9: 29 Stuck out the second I read it. ……According to your faith be it unto you. Wow!!!
I guess I don’t have as much faith as I thought. I need to remember this when I NEED the Lord’s help with something.

  4. I am (almost) beginning to find humor in the fact that every day God has chosen to peak to me about another aspect of obedience. Today it was that He desires both a heart of obedience and actions of obedience. And the heart comes first! The actions are in response to the obedient heart!

    1. SPEAK not peak :)

  5. As I read this morning, I was encouraged about my calling as a missionary.

  6. Goodmorning, It is surprising how a verse will stand out, but I can’t stand alone and answer all the questions I have. This mornings readings required the use of the commentary so I could see how often Jesus said something.
I am glad I am writing these down so I can revisit these once we have completed this study.

Have a wonderful day! I will see you tomorrow.

What struck me in chapter nine is how very much is packed into it. The Bible is brilliant in its brevity. Then I came to verse 35 which seemed to summarize the entire chapter: “Jesus went through all the towns and villages, teaching in their synagogues, preaching the good news of the kingdom and healing every disease and sickness.” That would make a pretty good mission statement for Jesus’ day-to-day life!
Amy, I thought of you and your mention of feeling scattered and needing to prioritze. I face the same struggle so I think it would be good for me to write a two sentence mission statement to keep in front of me daily, to help me prioritze and stay within the plan God has for MY life.

  8. Matt 9:28 Jesus said to them, Do you believe that I am able to do this?
Again Jesus questions their faith. Back then they were able to witness Jesus performing many miracles and hear all the talk about Jesus. What about us today? We have to believe by faith alone not by sight! Jesus said in Jn 20:29 ‘Blessed are those who have not seen & yet have come to believe.” How would we h0nestly answer that question?
Lord Jesus, increase our faith. Take away any doubt & disbelief that may be present. May we recognize your miracles and wonders in our everyday life. May we always be filled we awe of you and glorify God in your name Jesus. Amen

  9. Great thoughts, Amy! I hope He sends many to answer the call, and I will help out anytime you need me! Just let me know!

  10. I am really being blessed by this slower and more meditative pace going through the Gospels. I was surprised by what jumped out at me this morning–Jesus ate with sinners.

  11. Here’s my post on Matthew 9. Thanks again so much–I am learning so many new things! Like, I “thought” I had several verses from Matthew memorized, but then I realized I only had part of the verse in my head. It is so cool to see what the entire verse, and indeed chapter, says.

  12. Love the idea of meditation. How often we do our reading, close the Book, and move on. Today, God is really speaking to me about being an encouragement to others. The only way I can do this, is by being more consistent in my walk with him. Thank you for hosting.
