Guest Post: Why you should read the Bible in 90 Days with MomsToolbox

Do you desire a deeper relationship with our heavenly Father? Would you like more Bible knowledge? Do you yearn to be surrounded by others of faith who also desire those things as well? If the answer is yes to any of those, I encourage you to join us in our next session of reading the Bible in 90 Days.

I first joined up last July, and began the challenge while starting our second year of homeschooling. I had read the Bible in a year before, and was slightly terrified at the thought of reading the entire Bible in three months. I had to change my schedule after the first couple weeks, and wake up earlier for quiet time, for me it was the best time to read. Not only did the reading bring me closer to God, but the relationships I made in those three months were wonderful.

You are surrounded with Twitter updates, sharing verses that were meaningful, prayer requests, petitions for support and encouragement. For three months, you are surrounded by faith and see people change. The challenge is absolutely beautiful.

In January I committed to reading again, mentoring, and helping host Twitter chats on Monday evenings. I learned even more, saw familiar faces, and watched others grow again. Being behind the scenes, I appreciated the challenge even more. Amy puts so much into making this a success for all who are willing to be apart of it, and I hope to thank her in person one day.

This July, I will be reading and mentoring again, and I can’t wait to see what blessings are in store for the next group. I pray you will join us, I hope to meet you soon!

Samantha is a two-time Bible in 90 Days Graduate, wife of a minister, and stay at homeschooling mom of six blessings. She is passionate about faith, homeschooling, and organization. You can find Samantha on her blog, The Kelley Ei8ht, or on Twitter @thekelleyeight.

  1. I had also tried a one year Bible reading program, MANY MANY times, always stopping I think somewhere in Leviticus! Finally, I heard of the Bible in 90 Day program last fall, when I read on someone’s blog how they were doing the program. It got my curiosity up–could ANYONE even read the Bible through in 90 days? Wasn’t that impossible??? Well, it was too late for me anyway. The program was already started. But then a few months later, I know it was God who led me to someone else’s blog and they mentioned that a new Bible in 90 Day program was starting up January 2, 2011. THAT got my attention. All of a sudden I didn’t have the “excuse” that the program had already started and it was too late for me (can’t you just hear the “poor me” sound in that?!). So, I joined, dragging my sister who lives overseas to do it with me. We both finished, and were blessed SO much! We would occasionally e-mail back and forth to ask how the other was doing. And just knowing that a mentor was praying for me made a HUGE difference–it dragged me out of bed in the morning!

I also think anyone even THINKING about doing this should try. They have nothing to lose, and everything to gain! They will be blessed beyond measure, and will never regret it. And yes, I am going to do it again! :)

  2. I joined up last July and was just shy of finishing due to having a baby in the last month of the challenge.

Having said that, however, I have to echo what Samantha has said here. In addition to all of the above, you will make a connection with God that is so different. Not only will you make connections through the Word you are unlikely to make reading at slower pace, the discipline of reading the Bible and getting with God regularly is so amazing. And doing it for an hour or more a day? It’s a sacrifice!

My husband and I did this together and we gave up evening television to read the Bible. We challenged one another and encouraged one another. We would read side by side and consistently ask, “Where are you” in our reading to see who was going to finish first. See, reading the Bible can be FUN, but it is also important to build your faith and know God on a deeper level.

So what sets reading the Bible in 90 Days apart? Because upon first hearing about it, I was extremely reluctant. I said, “What’s the point? Reading the Bible in a Year is just as effective.” No, there is no “rule” to how you read the Bible. But I will tell you that reading it in 90 days is different than any Bible reading experience I’ve ever had. For one thing, you’re not lingering in those hard Old Testament books forever (such as Leviticus and Numbers). You read through them in a few days, and look back with accomplishment.

I think everyone should try it at least once. I didn’t finish the first time, so I am going to try it again. If I don’t have a plan to read my Bible, I won’t read.

Again, there is no law saying you have to read the Bible a certain way, but reading this particular plan is immensely fulfilling as a Christian. I challenge you to give it a try!

    1. Thank you so much for sharing your experience and thoughts with us!
I couldn’t agree more with what you shared! :)

And I’m thrilled you’ll be trying again with us this session.

      1. Absolutely!

And thanks, Amy! I’m excited to give it another try. :)
