I am not meant to do it all. Acts 6

Today’s reading is Acts 6.

Here is what I heard in the reading:

Scripture: Acts 6: 3-4

Brothers, choose seven men from among you who are known to be full of the Spirit and wisdom. We will turn this responsibility over to them and will give our attention to prayer and the ministry of the word.”

Observation:

The disciples recognized that more work needed to be done than they could handle themselves while still devoting themselves to their called mission, so they found suitable helpers in order to delegate some of the tasks.

Application:

I cannot do everything I want to do, nor can I do everything that needs to be done or is good to have done.

God recognizes that there are lots of worthy things to do, yet it is not our job to do each of them.

This is a big reason why I opted to invite more bloggers to join me in hosting the Bible in 90 Days this session. I love hosting it, but God is also calling me to do other things this season and I knew that in opening the hosting opportunity to others, I could do those other things and the program would still be shared effectively.

I am finding that it is important to take a deep, powerful look at all the things I feel directed to do and be sure that it is God who is directing me and determine if it is really me He is directing or whether I should support and encourage others to do some of those things.

We are not meant to do it all. We are meant to be part of a body that works together.

Prayer:

Lord, thank you for this reminder I am not meant to do it all.

Please guide me in staying focused on the things you intend for me to do. Please help me to release what is not mine or what is no longer mine and use me the way you want me to be a tool for you.

Help me to find delight in that, in releasing control and doing just what you want, rather than trying to be in charge. You are in charge. Show me what tasks are mine and guide me in doing just those.

What about you?

Are there some things you need to release from your control?

What else did you hear in Acts 6?

Amy, I saw the exact same thing in Act 6. And it is so timely — no coincidence, but God’s provision. My husband and I are leaders in our adult Bible class on Sunday mornings and we have roles to be filled. I’m using the actions in this chapter to pray over, choose, and release responsibilities to others. To not do so is failing to focus on what God’s asked of me in this season and not fostering growth/opportunities for others in our class.
