Listen and be true. Proverbs 5

Today (Saturday) we are reading Proverbs 5 here on the Proverbs in 31 Days. I hope you are enjoying this reading and are hearing God speaking to you through the Bible.

Here is what I heard:

Scripture: Proverbs 5:7

Now then, my sons, listen to me;

do not turn aside from what I say.

Observation:

Listen and apply my instruction.

Application:

Yes, this chapter talks about adultery in the traditional sense, but I believe we are also being told to not stray from God, not just our spouses.

I think God is reminding me to stay true to Him, to seek Him, listen to Him and do as He instructs. He wants my attention and does not want me to wander.

Prayer:

Father God, thank you for this reminder to be true to you, to listen to you and to follow your direction.

I love you and want to grow in you and keep my relationship with you, as well as my relationship with my husband, pure.

I will listen to you and I will do as you instruct. Thank you for giving me your Word and sending the Holy Spirit to guide me.

Proverbs 5:21 stood out to me. My life is an open book before Him. The thought that I am always within view of Him is a reminder to live in obedience, but I also realize the comfort and security of that truth, too. I really like using the SOAP method. Very helpful.

Thank you so much for doing this study! I am really enjoying reading a Proverb each night. How wonderful to have God’s Wisdom as the last thing that enters my mind before falling asleep! :-)

I had a question, though. It is probably just with translation, but I notice that the wording many times says “God hates stupid people” or “God hates….” something else. Do you think this is just a translational thing because I don’t believe God hates anyone. He loves all of us immensely. I don’t think he *likes* us sometimes when we make poor choices or break his commandments, but like with our children, we can never stop *loving* them no matter what

What is your take on that?
