Wine and chocolate pairing

With Valentine’s Day approaching, I thought I’d share something we did on New Year’s Eve that was a lot of fun. I think it quite easily lends itself to a fun grown-up Valentine’s activity, as well.
My husband found a chocolate and wine pairing box at a local store. The box contained a variety of chocolates and suggested you pair the chocolates with different wine varieties. If you’re up for a little scavenger hunt, you could match the same yourselves.
Here’s what you’ll need:

Chocolates:
31% milk chocolate
55% dark chocolate
61% dark semisweet chocolate
72% dark bittersweet chocolate
For these types of wines: (in the same order)
Chardonnay or Sauvignon Blanc
Merlot or Petit Syrah
Merlot or Pinot Noir
Cabernet Sauvignon or Zinfandel
We used the same merlot for both the 61% and 55% dark chocolates. I would not call myself a wine expert on any level, but I will say the wine did taste different after each chocolate.
And I will say the evening was a lot of fun… and very flavorful!
You could do this with your sweetie, a few couples or a couple girlfriends. Any way you do it, happy chocolate and wine hunting!!! (and even happier tasting! YUM!)

  1. Love this idea, I will be bookmarking this for sure! I once was served a chocolate cake paired with a Cabernet and it opened up a whole new world of flavor for me. Thanks!
