Fire up the ATV&#8217;s and Jeeps.. I think it&#8217;s time to go!<\/p>\n<p><strong>City or town name:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong> <\/strong>Moab, UT<br \/>\n<strong><br \/>\nIs there an airport there? If not, what is the nearest airport and how far away is it?<\/strong> <strong> <\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><\/strong>Moab has a small airport.\u00a0 Great Lakes Airlines has flights from Denver.\u00a0 Otherwise, the nearest airport is in Grand Junction, CO, which is about a 1.5 hour drive from there.<br \/>\n<strong><br \/>\nIs this a place you have visited more than once? If so, what keeps you coming back?<\/strong> <strong><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><\/strong>We LOVE Moab!\u00a0 We&#8217;ve visited every year for 16 years.\u00a0 The scenery is wonderful.\u00a0 We love the red rock formations with the LaSalle Mountains in the background.\u00a0 It is a desert, so spring and fall are the best times to go.<br \/>\n<strong><\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/s539.photobucket.com\/albums\/ff360\/Momstoolbox\/?action=view&amp;current=Moab2.jpg\" target=\"_blank\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" style=\"border: 0pt none;\" src=\"http:\/\/www.momstoolbox.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/05\/Moab2.jpg\" border=\"0\" alt=\"Photobucket\" width=\"480\" height=\"359\" \/><\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>What makes this place great for families to visit?<\/strong> <strong><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><\/strong>Moab is like a huge playground.\u00a0 People can go hiking, mountain biking, rock climbing, rafting, ATV-ing, 4-wheeling, etc.\u00a0 It is also near several national and state parks.<br \/>\n<strong><br \/>\nHow long should a family plan to stay to hit the highlights?<\/strong> <strong><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><\/strong>A family can hit the highlights in an extended weekend, but there is enough to do to spend a week or more.<br \/>\n<strong><\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/s539.photobucket.com\/albums\/ff360\/Momstoolbox\/?action=view&amp;current=Moab5.jpg\" target=\"_blank\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" style=\"border: 0pt none;\" src=\"http:\/\/www.momstoolbox.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/05\/Moab5.jpg\" border=\"0\" alt=\"Photobucket\" width=\"313\" height=\"417\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>What are some of the fun things to do? What were your favorites? Why? What ages would these spots appeal to?<\/strong> <strong><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><\/strong>The <a href=\"http:\/\/www.moab-utah.com\/\">Moab Information Site<\/a> has all of the information needed for planning a trip.\u00a0 There is also a Visitor Center in the middle of town that has a lot of information.<\/p>\n<p>We like to go hiking, ATV-ing, and 4-wheeling.\u00a0 If you don&#8217;t have your own vehicles, you can rent ATV&#8217;s and Jeeps to go exploring the off-road trails.\u00a0 You can also take Hummer tours if you don&#8217;t want to drive.\u00a0 If you really want to see Moab, I suggest spending some time on the off-road trails.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/s539.photobucket.com\/albums\/ff360\/Momstoolbox\/?action=view&amp;current=Moab4.jpg\" target=\"_blank\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.momstoolbox.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/05\/Moab4.jpg\" border=\"0\" alt=\"Photobucket\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.nps.gov\/arch\/index.htm\">Arches National Park<\/a> is one of our favorite places to go.\u00a0 There are short hikes, long hikes, easy hikes, and back-country hikes to some amazing scenery.\u00a0 They also have a Jr. Ranger program for kids ages 6 to 12.\u00a0 The opening scene for <em>Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade<\/em> was shot at Double Arch here.\u00a0 They have a special ranger guided tour to the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nps.gov\/arch\/planyourvisit\/programs.htm\">Fiery Furnace<\/a> which is very popular and fills up fast.\u00a0 I would suggest reserving a spot for the tour on the park&#8217;s web site.\u00a0 There are some tricky spots, so you may want to watch the video on the web site before deciding to go.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.nps.gov\/cany\/index.htm\">Canyonlands National Park<\/a> is also near Moab and has a Jr. Ranger program for ages 5 and up.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/stateparks.utah.gov\/parks\/dead-horse\">Dead Horse Point State Park<\/a> has beautiful views of the canyons.\u00a0 The Grand Canyon scenes in the movie <em>Thelma and Louise<\/em> were actually shot here.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.theholeintherock.com\/\">Hole in the Rock<\/a> is a home carved out of a huge rock.\u00a0 This was interesting to see once, but we never felt the need to go through it again.<\/p>\n<p>Moab is also known for its world-class mountain biking and river rafting.<\/p>\n<p>There are also places to see dinosaur tracks and Native American petroglyphs.<\/p>\n<p>If you like gift shops, you will probably want to set one day aside for shopping.\u00a0 There are many souvenir shops and galleries in downtown Moab.<\/p>\n<p>One thing to consider, it is a desert area.\u00a0 Make sure to take lots of water if you are going to be spending the day outside!<br \/>\n<strong><\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/s539.photobucket.com\/albums\/ff360\/Momstoolbox\/?action=view&amp;current=Moab3.jpg\" target=\"_blank\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" style=\"border: 0pt none;\" src=\"http:\/\/www.momstoolbox.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/05\/Moab3.jpg\" border=\"0\" alt=\"Photobucket\" width=\"508\" height=\"380\" \/><\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>What family-friendly places to eat would you recommend? Anything special about them?<\/strong> <strong><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><\/strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.miltsstopandeat.com\/\">Milt&#8217;s Stop and Eat<\/a> is an old-fashioned hamburger place that is off the beaten path.\u00a0 They have wonderful milkshakes!<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"http:\/\/moabdiner.com\/\">Moab Diner<\/a> is located downtown.\u00a0 It is pretty good and is reasonably priced.<\/p>\n<p>We have never been to it, but the <a href=\"http:\/\/barmchuckwagon.com\/\">Bar-M Chuckwagon<\/a> looks like a lot of fun for the whole family.<\/p>\n<p>There are also several micro-breweries in town that are family friendly restaurants.<br \/>\n<strong><br \/>\nWhat hotels or other places to stay can you recommend?<\/strong> <strong><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><\/strong>We generally stay in a cabin at <a href=\"http:\/\/www.canyonlandsrv.com\/\">Canyonlands Campground<\/a> which is right in the middle of downtown and within walking distance to the shops, etc.\u00a0 However, Moab has grown into quite a tourist town and there are many places to stay from campgrounds to mom and pop motels to major chain hotels.\u00a0 There are also houses and condos that can be rented.<\/p>\n<p>There are several weekends throughout the year when major events are hosted in Moab and lodging can be hard to find.\u00a0 I would recommend making reservations well in advance if possible.<br \/>\n<strong><br \/>\nIf adults can fit in a date night without the kids while there, what would you suggest?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><\/strong>The <a href=\"http:\/\/www.moab-utah.com\/sunsetgrill\/\">Sunset Grill<\/a> is a cliff-side fine dining restaurant overlooking the town.\u00a0 We haven&#8217;t been there in a long time, but last time we were there the food was wonderful and so were the views.<\/p>\n<p>Renee&#8217;s Destination Snapshot certainly makes me want to add Moab, Utah to my list!
