I’m not sure what it
is that draws me into the story so much. Maybe it’s the whole peasant
to queen storyline. Maybe it’s the overall analogy between Esther’s
relationship with the king and our relationship with God.

The preparation that Esther went through before she even met with the
king was intensive. Did you catch that it was one entire year?
{Esther 2:12} One year of preparation for one
night. Her presentation to the king was nothing to be
taken lightly. There were many things for her to learn ~ the etiquette
of a queen, how to walk ‘just so’, how to exude a beautiful aroma that
would be pleasing to the king. It wasn’t a time where she just sat
around eating chocolates and playing games.

As Tommy Tenney says in his book Finding Favor With the King
{p.77} ~ “Every bridal candidate submitted to extensive preparation
to remove every odor, habit, blemish, or spot that would be out of
place before the throne of the great ruler.” Basically,
Esther learned that it was important to please the king and do all that
would meet his needs ~ not her own.

Do you see where I am going with this?

My life isn’t all about me, me, me. It is meant to glorify Him and
please Him. He has redeemed me, covered me with His blood ~ and calls
me to be His bride. His princess. He longs for a deeper relationship
with each one of us. That doesn’t mean that I can just sit back and
enjoy the ride ~ relationship requires work. There are many
things in my life that need to be purified, refined and purged out
similar to the preparation that Esther went through. It isn’t always
quick and easy {in fact, sometimes it’s rather painful}. But I am so
thankful that {unlike Esther} I know already that my King has chosen me
and longs to be in close relationship with me. I won’t be sent to live
out my remaining days in a far away room in the palace, but will live
in His presence ~ forever.

Thanks, Jolanthe!

So… what did you think… about Esther, any of the books we’ve read or even Jolanthe’s vlog?
