You can tell she sure LOVES San Francisco!<\/p>\n<p><strong>City or town name:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>San Francisco, CA<strong><br \/>\n<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>Is there an airport there? <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>SFO (San Francisco International) is about 25 min South of downtown and is easily accessible by<a href=\"http:\/\/www.caltrain.com\/\" target=\"_blank\"> CalTrain<\/a> or hotel shuttle<\/p>\n<p><strong>Is this a place you have visited more than once?<\/strong><strong> If so, what keeps you coming back?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>I lived there for 5 years before I was married, and we try to visit at least once a year. It is simply the most beautiful city in the world! ; )<\/p>\n<p><strong>What were the ages of your children when you visited?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong> <\/strong>I went with Finnegan by myself for the first time when he was 7 mos old, and we have been back as a family every year since.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/s539.photobucket.com\/albums\/ff360\/Momstoolbox\/?action=view&amp;current=SFbabyGoldenGateBridge.jpg\" target=\"_blank\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" style=\"border: 0pt none;\" src=\"http:\/\/www.momstoolbox.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/05\/SFbabyGoldenGateBridge.jpg\" border=\"0\" alt=\"Photobucket\" width=\"324\" height=\"487\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>What makes this place great for families to visit?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong> <\/strong>The actual city of SF\u00a0measures only 7&#215;7 miles. It is easy to get around on foot, cable car, bus, Muni, streetcar, etc. There are A LOT of activities for children and the whole family.<\/p>\n<p><strong>How long should a family plan to stay to hit the highlights?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>3-5 days would be good<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/s539.photobucket.com\/albums\/ff360\/Momstoolbox\/?action=view&amp;current=SFCableCar.jpg\" target=\"_blank\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" style=\"border: 0pt none;\" src=\"http:\/\/www.momstoolbox.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/05\/SFCableCar.jpg\" border=\"0\" alt=\"Photobucket\" width=\"313\" height=\"470\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>What are some of the fun things to do? What were your favorites? Why? What ages would these spots appeal to?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Aside from the fairly obvious (cable car ride, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.visitfishermanswharf.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Fisherman&#8217;s Wharf &amp; Pier 39<\/a>, Alcatraz, a drive over Golden Gate Bridge and one down Lombard Street), we always enjoy<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.sfgov.org\/site\/recpark_index.asp\" target=\"_blank\">Golden Gate Park<\/a> for picnics<\/li>\n<li>museums &amp; the <a href=\"http:\/\/japaneseteagardensf.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Japanese Tea Garden<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.parksconservancy.org\/visit\/park-sites\/baker-beach.html\" target=\"_blank\">Baker Beach<\/a> for a day a the beach (however, it is too cold to swim)<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.baykidsmuseum.org\/\" target=\"_blank\">Bay Area Discovery Museum<\/a> across the Golden Gate Bridge (you take the ferry there: a treat in itself!),<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.yerbabuenagardens.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Yerba Buena Gardens<\/a> (live outdoor music, street artists, etc.)<\/li>\n<li>the (always open) <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ferrybuildingmarketplace.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Farmer&#8217;s Market<\/a> in and around\u00a0the Ferry Building<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.parksconservancy.org\/our-work\/crissy\/\" target=\"_blank\">Crissy Field<\/a> for flying kites with the Golden Gate Bridge as a backdrop!<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/s539.photobucket.com\/albums\/ff360\/Momstoolbox\/?action=view&amp;current=SFcarousel.jpg\" target=\"_blank\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" style=\"border: 0pt none;\" src=\"http:\/\/www.momstoolbox.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/05\/SFcarousel.jpg\" border=\"0\" alt=\"Photobucket\" width=\"517\" height=\"344\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>What family-friendly places to eat would you recommend? Anything special about them?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>San Francisco is a family-friendly town! You can take your children anywhere, but some of our favorite places are <a href=\"http:\/\/www.boudinbakery.com\/at-the-wharf\" target=\"_blank\">Boudin&#8217;s on Fisherman&#8217;s Wharf<\/a> (clam chowder or chili in a sourdough bread bowl!),<a href=\"http:\/\/www.in-n-out.com\/\" target=\"_blank\"> In &#8216;n Out Burgers<\/a> on Fisherman&#8217;s Wharf, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.gordonbiersch.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Gordon Biersch<\/a> on Embarcadero, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.thecheesecakefactory.com\/Locations\/locations#\" target=\"_blank\">Cheesecake Factory<\/a> on Union Square<\/p>\n<p><strong>What hotels or other places to stay can you recommend?<\/strong> We stay right downtown at the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.marriott.com\/hotels\/travel\/sfodt-san-francisco-marriott-marquis\/\" target=\"_blank\">Marriott<\/a> and always like it.<\/p>\n<p><strong>If adults can fit in a date night without the kids while there, what would you suggest? <\/strong>San Francisco has some of the best restaurants in the nation, so you cannot really go wrong.<\/p>\n<p>My all-time favorite is <a href=\"http:\/\/www.chezpanisse.com\/reservations\/\" target=\"_blank\">Chez Panisse<\/a> in Berkeley (you&#8217;ll need a car), best sushi is Godzilla on Divisadero at\u00a0 Bush, best seafood (fancy!)\u00a0is <a href=\"http:\/\/www.farallonrestaurant.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Farallon<\/a>, best steak is <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ruthschris.com\/Steak-House\/3099\/San%20Francisco?google_local\" target=\"_blank\">Ruth&#8217;s\u00a0 Chris<\/a> on Van Ness, best Italian anywhere in North Beach around Columbus Avenue<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/s539.photobucket.com\/albums\/ff360\/Momstoolbox\/?action=view&amp;current=SF.jpg\" target=\"_blank\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" style=\"border: 0pt none;\" src=\"http:\/\/www.momstoolbox.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/05\/SF.jpg\" border=\"0\" alt=\"Photobucket\" width=\"506\" height=\"336\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Sounds like a lot of fun for families to me! I&#8217;ve enjoyed San Francisco in the past as an adult, but now I think it might be time return and bring the kids.<br \/>\nWhat about you?
