We saw a pretty serious movie, but one that made me appreciate our love and as we walked through a crosswalk my husband asked about the spring in my step. Or maybe he said bounce. But whatever: It was breezy and we were out in our old neighborhood walking from the movie theater to a spot for dinner. And we were having meaningful conversation. All was good.

Fast forward about 20 minutes when my Blackberry is stolen.

Yes, stolen.

As in, my husband and I are at a bar and two seats open up. He goes to stand by them and I grab my purse and our food and carry it over. One of us goes back to get our drinks. We sit and start eating and it occurs to me I left my phone on the counter. Mind you, our new seats are TWO seats over from the one we had before.

Well, by this time (maybe 3-4 minutes from the initial move) my phone is gone. It has completely disappeared. Buh- bye.

I used my husband’s phone and immediately deactivated my phone and then started shaking. I don’t think anything has ever been stolen from me. And I’ve lost maybe three things in my lifetime that I can remember. (Sorry, Mom, about that gold boot charm in the 6th or 7th grade.) I’m pretty good at keeping up with things. But not this time.

How could that person do that? In my town? My ‘hood? In an area of town that has so many happy memories for me? And what will this thief do with all the infomation in my phone? Will my friends get Christmas cards from a new person this year? Has any important information been compromised?

Most likely my SIM card is in a trashcan somewhere. (I hope so.)

But grrr. This makes me so angry.

But, hey, I’ve got eternal life coming to me, and I doubt that guy/gal knows that he can have some of that, too. And I’ve got a husband who loves me and a healthy family and the phone was given to me by a neighbor anyhow. (I know, most neighbors might pass out a cup of sugar. Mine gave me his discarded Blackberry. Pretty sweet, huh?)

But yes, I’m inconvenienced and irritated.

But you know what? At least I can solve this problem pretty easily. And the phone thief can get started in solving his/her woes (which must be much bigger than mine) pretty easily, too. Guess I need to say a prayer for him or her and move on. And keep an even closer watch on my phone the next time.

So last night my husband and I were out having our date night.
