Here is what she heard in the reading:

Filled with joy

Scripture: Matthew 28:8

So the women hurried away from the tomb, afraid yet filled with joy, and ran to tell his disciples.

Observation:

How often do we tell people about Jesus’ resurrection because we are “filled with joy”?

Application:

Reading this chapter, although it culminates with the Great Commission, I was struck by this verse.

These women, just having witnessed the fact of the resurrection, were so filled with joy that they had to tell someone. I should feel that way every day, and yet I don’t.

There are many days that I don’t mention Jesus’ amazing sacrifice and resurrection at all. I can blame it on the fact that I have two kids under three, or that I have to take care of the house, or that I had too many errands to run. The fact is, there is no excuse. I should be telling people all the time of the greatest thing that anyone has ever done, or will do, for me.

Prayer:

Dear God, Please help me to overcome my ungratefulness.

So much was accomplished on that cross and in that empty tomb that I cannot comprehend, but I know that you defeated sin and that you did it because you love me. Thank you. Please fill me with the joy of the resurrection everyday so that I cannot help but share the news that Jesus has risen.

Carrie Chandler is a farmer’s wife and a mom to two who is striving to be a godly wife and mother.
