I&#8217;m going to have dinner with some friends tonight.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>And then the gravity of my &#8216;lady party&#8217; hit me. We were gathering to honor the memory of a dear friend who had been taken by a bolt of lightning 10 years ago.<\/p>\n<p>I thought about how little time we may have and how I do not want my children to feel like guests or friends are more important than they are.<\/p>\n<p>I only had one trifle bowl (Actually I don&#8217;t even have that. I was \u00a0borrowing it from another friend) but I remembered a pewter tray in the cabinet and made the kids their own similar dessert to enjoy with dad.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/s539.photobucket.com\/albums\/ff360\/Momstoolbox\/?action=view&amp;current=c470aaa3.jpg\" target=\"_blank\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" style=\"border: 0pt none;\" src=\"http:\/\/www.momstoolbox.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/07\/c470aaa3.jpg\" alt=\"A special dessert for a lady party... and my family\" width=\"319\" height=\"238\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>They felt special for having such an indulgent dessert without a special occasion and I was happy to see them smile.<\/p>\n<p>And all it took was a fun serving dish and a few extra moments to arrange the berries, cake and whipped cream. I might just do that again, even when I&#8217;m not making a dessert for a lady party.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><strong>Berries and Cream Trifle<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>1\/2 of an angel food cake<\/p>\n<p>2 cups strawberries, cut into quarters<\/p>\n<p>1\/2 cup raspberries<\/p>\n<p>1\/2 cup blueberries<\/p>\n<p>1 1\/2 cup heavy whipping cream<\/p>\n<p>sugar to taste<\/p>\n<p>dark chocolate bar<\/p>\n<p>1. Slice the angel food cake into 1&#8243; cubes and arrange on the bottom of a trifle bowl.<\/p>\n<p>2. Whip the whipping cream until the texture of whipped cream, adding sugar to taste as you go.<\/p>\n<p>3. Spread the quartered strawberries over the angel food cake layer.<\/p>\n<p>4. Spread a thin layer of whipped cream over the strawberries.<\/p>\n<p>5. Layer the raspberries and blueberries next.<\/p>\n<p>6. Add a final layer of whipped cream.<\/p>\n<p>7.
