{"id":8420,"date":"2011-07-08T10:02:54","date_gmt":"2011-07-08T15:02:54","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.momstoolbox.com\/blog\/?p=8420"},"modified":"2011-07-08T10:02:54","modified_gmt":"2011-07-08T15:02:54","slug":"why-should-you-read-the-bible-in-90-days","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.momstoolbox.com\/blog\/why-should-you-read-the-bible-in-90-days\/","title":{"rendered":"Why should you read the Bible in 90 days?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/s539.photobucket.com\/albums\/ff360\/Momstoolbox\/?action=view&amp;current=B90DaysTee.jpg\" target=\"_blank\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" style=\"border: 0pt none;\" src=\"http:\/\/www.momstoolbox.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/07\/B90DaysTee.jpg\" border=\"0\" alt=\"Why should you read the Bible in 90 days\" width=\"320\" height=\"240\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>Guest post by Bible in 90 Days grad and mentor, Daenel.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>For me, it was a journey of self discovery, spiritual growth and connecting to God.\u00a0 I grew up in the church (both my parents are preachers), so I thought I knew the Bible.\u00a0 I\u2019d read it during church services, I\u2019d even read it as a requirement for a couple of courses I took in college, but the one thing I hadn\u2019t done was <em>absorbed<\/em> what I was reading.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThy word have I laid up in my heart, That I might not sin against thee.\u201d<em> &#8211;Psalm 119:11 (American Standard Version)<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Reading the Bible in 90 days helped me to realize that contrary to how I sometimes feel, I\u2019m never alone.\u00a0 Over the years, I\u2019ve struggled with remaining connected to God.\u00a0 I know He never left me but there were times when I felt more alone than at others.\u00a0 Reading His word at a dedicated time every morning gave me a space to hear and feel Him.<\/p>\n<p>Sharing this experience with an online community has also made this experience much more social.\u00a0 Reading and feeling the joy in a <a href=\"http:\/\/twitter.com\/#%21\/search?q=%23B90Days\" target=\"_blank\">#B90Days<\/a> tweet is something that I cannot express.\u00a0 Connecting with my sisters in Christ and sharing the truth of God\u2019s word has blessed me beyond words.\u00a0 And I firmly believe that reading in this supportive environment is an extension of the physical church.<\/p>\n<p>As you begin this reading challenge, let me offer this advice:\u00a0 <strong>make sure you are led by the Spirit to do it.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Reading the Bible in 90 days is a serious undertaking that requires discipline and hard work.\u00a0 During the next 90 days there will be times when you may fall behind and want to quit or something, anything, will catch your attention and try to distract you from your intended goal.\u00a0 <em>It\u2019s amazing how anything shiny will captivate you during the next 90 days<\/em>.\u00a0 <strong>Be prepared to pray.\u00a0 Every day.\u00a0 Pray for guidance, focus, clarity and patience.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong> Actually, I have a few more pieces of advice to help guide you through this challenge: <\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Be consistent<\/strong> ~ set aside a time that is dedicated to God and God only (this may be hard, especially if you have small children but if you set aside time, it makes it easier to be dedicated)<\/li>\n<li><strong>Keep a notebook<\/strong> ~ don\u2019t stop to study while you\u2019re reading, write down your questions and go back and find the answers when you have time to do the research<\/li>\n<li><strong>Stay connected<\/strong> ~ rely on your mentor and ask your Twitter family to support you<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>I finished reading the Bible in 90 days in <a href=\"http:\/\/livingoutsidethestacks.com\/2011\/04\/bible-in-90-days-my-reflection\/\" target=\"_blank\">Spring 2011<\/a> and I look forward to being a mentor during this #B90Days session.\u00a0 The lessons I learned from reading the Bible in 90 days can be read <a href=\"http:\/\/livingoutsidethestacks.com\/2011\/06\/reading-the-bible-in-90-days-why-i-did-it\/\" target=\"_blank\">here<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><em>Daenel writes about navigating through life away from the library at <a href=\"http:\/\/www.livingoutsidethestacks.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Living Outside the Stacks<\/a>.
