{"id":890,"date":"2008-10-22T11:55:51","date_gmt":"2008-10-22T16:55:51","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.momstoolbox.com\/blog\/?p=890"},"modified":"2008-10-22T13:17:49","modified_gmt":"2008-10-22T18:17:49","slug":"weight-watching-wednesday-educate-yourself-on-your-options","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.momstoolbox.com\/blog\/weight-watching-wednesday-educate-yourself-on-your-options\/","title":{"rendered":"Weight Watching Wednesday- Educate yourself on your options"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0in 0in 0pt;\"><span style=\"font-size: small; font-family: Times New Roman;\">I\u2019m sorry I didn\u2019t get this posted earlier\u2026 Last night I had a hot mid-week date with my husband and that kind of threw me off my schedule.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0in 0in 0pt;\"><span style=\"font-size: small; font-family: Times New Roman;\">If you are following me on Twitter, you might have noticed that I was a little unhappy yesterday with my lack of progress on the Weight Watcher\u2019s scale this week. I gained half of a pound.<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">\u00a0 <\/span>Yes, I know, it could have been worse. But I knew it was really all my fault&#8230; That\u2019s what got me.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0in 0in 0pt;\"><span style=\"font-size: small; font-family: Times New Roman;\">I didn\u2019t expect to have lost. I knew I hadn\u2019t followed the plan as close as I needed to. The really ridiculous thing was that I also didn\u2019t know how far from the plan I had come, either. I hadn\u2019t been keeping close tabs on my eating!<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0in 0in 0pt;\"><span style=\"font-size: small; font-family: Times New Roman;\">How can I see what\u2019s really going on if I don\u2019t track it? I think this is true for any plan, by the way, not just WW.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0in 0in 0pt;\"><span style=\"font-size: small; font-family: Times New Roman;\">The last time I was a Weight Watcher I jumped in with both feet and wouldn\u2019t put ANYTHING in my mouth unless I knew the points value first. (Okay, at a Christmas party I ate a little dinner without knowing the points value. But I filled up on low-point options first and only nibbled on the entr\u00e9e. I even figured in the points for my cocktails and drank accordingly.)<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0in 0in 0pt;\"><span style=\"font-size: small; font-family: Times New Roman;\">Up until yesterday I was kind of muddling my way through, looking things up here and there and trying to stick with those&#8230; or just having a few nibbles of the others. (which led to more nibbles and more nibbles and\u2026) And, of course I wasn\u2019t logging anything.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0in 0in 0pt;\"><span style=\"font-size: small; font-family: Times New Roman;\">So yesterday afternoon I decided it was time to REALLY jump in and mean business.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0in 0in 0pt;\"><span style=\"font-size: small; font-family: Times New Roman;\">I took out my masking tape and a Sharpie (you may have read about my <a href=\"http:\/\/www.momstoolbox.com\/blog\/masking-tape-works-for-me\/\">general labeling <\/a>before) and got down to business labeling points values on the foods in my pantry. A few things pleasantly surprised me (45 pretzel sticks are just 2 points!!) and a few opened my eyes to be more cautious. I even measured out a few things so I could see what a \u00bc cup looks like and stay accurate. (I also circled serving sizes to remind me of what I was counting.)<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0in 0in 0pt;\"><span style=\"font-size: small; font-family: Times New Roman;\">By labeling my pantry, so many more options are open to me than I thought. And you could do this, too\u2026 regardless of what plan you might be following.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0in 0in 0pt;\"><span style=\"font-size: small; font-family: Times New Roman;\">How can you expect to follow and really stay with a plan if you don\u2019t educate yourself?<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0in 0in 0pt;\"><span style=\"font-size: small; font-family: Times New Roman;\">I want to change my lifestyle back to a healthier one, not just do this for a few weeks. Consequently I cannot rely on just learning about a few food options. I need to educate myself on everything in my pantry and then go from there.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0in 0in 0pt;\"><span style=\"font-size: small; font-family: Times New Roman;\">I will not lose weight and make healthy changes by limiting myself. Those changes will only come about when I educate myself on the options and use them.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0in 0in 0pt;\"><span style=\"font-size: small; font-family: Times New Roman;\">So check out your pantry and \u2018fridge&#8230; What\u2019s in there? What needs to stay? What needs to go? Check it out and plan options for yourself. Set a goal and document your progress.
