All good things are from God, my master

Scripture: Psalm 16:2

I said to the Lord, “You are my Master!

All the good things I have are from you.”

Observation: God is in charge of him (me) and all the good thing is his life (my life) are gifts from God.

Application: On my first reading this morning I glossed right over this verse. But it grabbed me when I went back.

So often I want to think that the blessings in my life are things or situations that I earned in some way. But it is really God who made those things possible and chooses to bless me in the ways He does. And he is my master– he could do whatever he wants with me. And he chooses love and blessings.

I need to recognize that more and give thanks more. I do often say prayers of thanks. And I often thank God right away when something exciting and good happens. But I must admit that I still like to attribute my blessings to myself… my ability to plan and (often) carry out those plans. Or that I try to be nice, so nice attitudes should come my way. But really, all good things come from Him. Period. He chooses to bless me much more than I deserve. And I need to keep that in mind often.

Prayer: Lord, thank you for your unending fountain of blessings. You give and give and give to me. Thank you. Thank you for being my master, for being in charge, and for treating me with kindness and love. You are an amazing, loving, lavish God. Thank you for the massive shower of gifts you have given and continue to share with me. And thank you for your forgiveness when I forget from where the gifts have come. Please continue to be my master and guide me where you want me to go. Show me how you want me to serve so I can show my love for you.
