Any book organizing advice out there?

Not too long ago I did some serious de-cluttering in my son’s room.

It resulted in his room looking fantastic, but my central bookshelves becoming quite a big mess. I have books on all sorts of levels and kids of three different ages.

So here’s my question for all you organizing reading types: What’s the best way to organize all those books? And how can I do it in a way that my 3, 5 and 7 year-old children can keep up with the system?

I’m keeping most books in one set of bookshelves, with several other books in each of the children’s rooms.

Suggestions, anyone?

PLEASE comment away. And link to your own posts of you can.  I’m counting on you!!

Thanks!

  1. My 2yo has a spot on her book shelf (used to store all her toys) that is just for books… instead of trying to get her to attempt to “file” the books, I have a box that she can put them in, or she can just stack them on the shelf. She knows where they go, and when we ask her to put them away, they usually make it pretty close… hope that helps!

  2. Arrange the books on the shelves as you like. Purchase the small dot stickers, one color for each shelf. Stick the stickers on the spine of each book. Then the child can keep the books separated by color. :)

  3. My daughters and my own books are a mess, so if you get any good advice please pass it my way!
