B90 Days SOAP: Praying for protection

Scripture:  Genesis 19: 29

So when God destroyed the cities of the plain, he remembered Abraham, and he brought Lot out of the catastrophe that overthrew the cities where Lot had lived.

Observation: God listened and honored the requests of Abraham and Lot and protected them.

Application: God wants to hear from us and may alter his plans when we are reasonable in our requests.

Prayer: This passage in Genesis has stood out to me for years. I often wonder if there is something You are trying to tell me to pray about more so that I will see how You bring about change.

Thank you Lord for being a God who listens to His people and thank you for caring for us as much as you do.

Please forgive me when I want to solve things on my own and do not pray about them…  and when I think something is too large to ‘bother’ you with in prayer. Nothing is hopeless with you, Lord. Please remind me of that when I think about all the evil in the world. You can and will overcome it all. And I should get to work praying with faith about that evil every day. Please, Lord, spare your children. Keep us from evil… and send that evil away. And please, Lord, keep us under your protection.

  1. […] I found it interesting to note that almost the same verse spoke to me the last time  I read through the Bible in 90 Days. Here’s a link to my B 90 Day 2 post from January. […]

  2. What impressed me most today…was that 2 of my children and my husband have agreed to come alongside with me so we can all do this together.

i am overwhelmed with God’s faithfulness and the working of the Holy Spirit!

  3. Genesis 18:14 stood out to me too.

And I LOVE reading about Jacob.

That Esau sold his birthright for a bowl of lentil stew stood out too. My husband and I had a pretty good discussion on it :-)

  4. I would have to say that prayer is one of my greatest weaknesses. My best friend is always asking me if I prayed and I’m always disappointed in myself and impressed with her ability to pray all the time.

I know that God is there for my family, he watches out for us much more than we deserve. I was recently reminded that he answers prayers on his time and that his timing is perfect.

  5. I agree with Alice that 18:14 jumped out at me too.

“Is anything too hard for the LORD?”

ANYthing…..ANYthing….that just keeps resounding…just can’t quite get my mind around that.

ANY situation, ANY care, ANY problem

What a comfort! We just have to trust.

  6. God is so faithful even if we are not. During my reading today, the fact that Abraham laughed at God really stood out to me. How many times do we try to put God in a box and only let Him out when need help? We can not fathom the plans God has for us if we are obedient!

  7. Genesis 18:14 – where Sarah laughed at the idea of becoming pregnant in her old age, and the angel of the Lord said, “Is anything too hard for the Lord?”

The answer is, of course, NO! :) This really stood out to me.

Lord, give me more faith that I would never consider anything to be beyond Your reach, and always have full confidence in You.

  8. Genesis 17:1

Be blameless can mean be whole and complete, a matter of the heart. Christians should know that we are called of God to be a blameless people. This is not easy to live this way without constant devotion, desire and dedication. However, nothing is impossible with the Lord. Let’s strive to walk before God with nothing to hide. Walk before God – a slow steady solid walk every day of the week, not just Sunday’s. Trusting him as He is with us on our path. If we are living for Him, we can trust where we are. God will catch us if we fall, as well as confessing our sins to Him. Only the Lord will help us be blameless, for this is not something we can do on our own. God always keep His promises, which comforts us. When we live by His Word, we have nothing to fear – ever!

  9. I was impressed by God’s faithfulness–keeping HIs promise to Abraham when it seemed laughable and impossible.

  10. Genesis 21:1 (paraphrased) said that ….”the Lord was gracious to Sarah and gave her what He had promised.”
This verse jumped straight off the page for me – and I could hear God’s firm assurance in my heart that He is the same God today, still faithful to His promises.
My paper heart needed to hear that this morning…..needed to be reminded that the promises He has written to me in His Word are MY promises. I cannot wait to hear more from Him as we journey through these 90 days….and I cannot wait to say,
“The Lord was gracious to Amy and gave her what He had promised…”
    Praise the Lord!
