   In looking at this list, I am struck by the fact that the deceptive encounter between Tamar and Judah eventually produced Jesus. I probably shouldn’t be shocked, but I am. I remember reading that chapter of Genesis and being so totally appalled that I had to get on Twitter to talk about it.

   Some of the kings were bad, but some were the only good kings in either Israel or Judah. Asa, Hezekiah, and Josiah are some of the only good ones, and I don’t know if it’s true, but supposedly Manasseh repented toward the end of his life (it’s extra-biblical). I’ve always especially loved the fact that there are 3 Gentile women mentioned in Christ’s geneology and they’re the only women mentioned period. I wrote a series on adoption in November and I believe this is a wonderful testimony to God’s original plan being one of international adoption even though He mainly worked through Israel in the OT. Rahab, Ruth, and Tamar reveal God’s sovereignty in salvation. He brought these women into a relationship with Him, forgave them, and even gave them a place in His Story that is unparalleled.

   I re-read what the Bible says to some of Jesus ancestors. I’am surprised to see that many are bad kings, some are even worst king of Judah. Shows us that despite their sins (to the point that God was very angry with them and thrust them from his presence), God keeps his promise to Abrahan and David.

   You know what I think is amazing and such a testimony to God’ redemptive powers? Seeing how many ‘messed up’ families are in that line. :)
