Bible in 90 Days: Thinking of giving up?

I wish I could send an email, or something very similar to it, to each and every one of you who is thinking of stopping, or has already stopped. But I am beginning to realize that I cannot do that and hold up all my other mom and wife-type obligations.

I want to connect with each of and let you know that I care for you, that I know this is hard, that I want you to succeed and be amazed at what God has done for you and what God has enabled you to do.

Reading the Bible in 90 Days is a tough challenge. It is so worthwhile, though, and your life will be changed if you stick it through.

It is my fervent prayer that you stick with us, dig your heels in,  find every possible moment to redeem for the Lord and catch up and then finish reading in 90 days with the rest of us. It is a challenging task… there are a lot of odds stacked against you, but it is a task that is well worth it. Your life will be changed. Every sermon you hear will be different. Every study you take after this will be more meaningful and yes, I believe that reading at this pace IS more valuable than just completing it all.

When you read at this pace you can see how it all fits together.

When you read this fast you DO remember more than you think

And, when you read this fast, you are encouraged to keep it up and not stop, not give in but keep going, surrounding yourself with His Word.

It is your decision to stop or continue.

Please know that I am praying for you to stay with us and amaze yourself. You CAN catch up if you want to. And I am convinced He wants you to.

If you are floundering, please pray about this and listen, truly listen, to His guidance. Ask the members of your group to pray for you, too. (Find your group’s page by going to this week’s check in post and clicking on your group number or letter.)

And if you do determine that now is not the right time, I would love for you to try again when it is the right time. And it would be my honor to encourage you then, too.

If you must stop, please stay in the Word and get ready for another try when the time is right. I use this Bible in a Year plan when I am not reading the Bible in 90 Days. Click over, print it out and read starting from today. Don’t worry about making it up. Your new goal will be to spend time each day in the Word. Soon I’ll post an index of my SOAP posts using that schedule to help you reflect.

Please, though, use that only as a last resort.

If you want to do this, if you want to read the Bible in its entirety, now is your chance. Do it in 90 days with the rest of us. If you stop now, it WILL be harder next time. Something brought you here in the first place to make you think about reading the Bible in 90 Days with us. Do you think that was random coincidence?

  1. I do not want to stop. I am, however, about a week behind. I need your prayers so that I may catch up and continue on with the rest of you. Please pray for me so that I do not give up.

  2. I have not stopped and I do not want to stop. My concern is catching up considering all that is going on in my life. I need prayer. I am first year director of VBS at my church. VBS is next week. I’ve just taken over the pre K/K program and my husband is heading into a very heavy travel season in which we will be blessed if he is home on the weekends. There is more too but those are my big areas. Things that are on my mind.

I do not want to stop though because I am hungry for His word. I want to fit in the time to somehow catch up.

Thank you for this post! It is very encouraging!!

Awww…I love what you said! I agree:

“When you read at this pace you can see how it all fits together.

When you read this fast you DO remember more than you think

And, when you read this fast, you are encouraged to keep it up and not stop, not give in but keep going, surrounding yourself with His Word.”

I am already experiencing all of these truths and I think about what I have read so often throughout the day and when I am listening to speakers on the radio and talking to my husband and sister.

    Thank you for your encouragement!

    God bless you Amy!

  4. “Do you think that was random coincidence?” LOVE that! : )

Plugging along and loving it! I especially loved it when you said, “When you read at this pace you can see how it all fits together.” I can’t agree more. I’m seeing how Israel and Judah are starting to “separate” and I’ve never understood that before. That’s just ONE example.

Thank you for your accountability, Amy! Can’t wait for the Tweet Chat tomorrow night! : )

  5. Hi! I am thoroughly enjoying B90. I have given you a blog award. Check it out here. http://homeschoolblogger.com/guidinglight/785226/

  6. Hi Amy,
My husband and I have been so busy taking care of my father in law who has vascular dementia while my mother in law is in recovery from hip surgery that I have gotten behind on my reading. My husband and son don’t want me to quit. So my husband helped me come up with a plan to get caught up. There have been times I have wanted to throw in the towel. I’m getting so much out of the reading though. That I’m going to keep going. Here is my plan…

    1-23-11 Your on day 21 I read day’s 16 and 17
    1-24-11 Your on day 22 I read day’s 18 and 19
    1-25-11 Your on day 23 I read day’s 20 and 21
    1-26-11 Your on day 24 I read day’s 22 and 23
    1-27-11 Your on day 25 I read day’s 24 and 25
1-28-11 We are both on day 26 together!!

I know I can do it. Most of my reading has gotten done first thing in the morning so that is my plan for this week. Read in the morning and finish in the evening,

    1. That is a GREAT idea to break it up like that!! It starts to get really intimidating when you have several days worth to catch up..this makes it so much more realistic! Thanks for sharing!

      1. I know I have a week’s worth of catching up to do and it’s really intimidating to me.

  7. One of the things I thought about today is how ALL CONSUMING this challenge is . . . but in an awesome way. My mind is on the Lord all day long. I’m constantly thinking about reading my Bible. From the moment I get up in the morning to the moment I go to sleep, I’m thinking about my reading. One of the things I love about reading at this pace is that I can’t help but be focused on the Lord!

    1. I so agree Kelleigh! I am really enjoying it. I have struggled a day or two but so far am staying on course! Loving all I gleaned from David and seeing things I haven’t seen before in previous reads!

  8. Thank you for this uplifting post! I am way, way behind but not yet giving up. I was able to checkmark 3 days of reading off today. And yet, I’m still days and days behind. But I choose not to give up and do my best to catch up. I knew this would be difficult and that, actually this wasn’t the best time for me to complete this challenge and yet, knowing all of that, I chose to still try the challenge.

  9. I have to admit that this challenge is tougher than I thought it would be especially with a full-time job, kids, husband, housework and church. I tried getting up an hour early, but 5am was just too early, so I decided to get up 30 minutes early and then read the rest of the reading during lunch. Sometimes its easier to find 15-20 minutes several times a day than to chunk out a whole hour. This has worked out better for me. And I was really behind for a week and now I am almost caught up. Yeah! I also know that I was brought here for a reason. God has done an amazing work in my life lately and I think this is just the beginning.

    1. I am so proud of you for sticking it out and finding a way to read that works for you. Good tip and keep it up! :)

  10. I have had the flu and been sick all week. It has been so hard to read and I am only in Judges. Thank you for this post. I have already learned so much that I haven never learned before and really want to complete this on time. I just spent a car ride with the family reading and thought I would get some encouragement before reading more. Your post is just exactly what I needed to hear! Thanks.

    1. Thanks for YOUR encouragement of me! :) I am so glad this post helped.

I’ll be praying for you to get well soon.. and keep up the reading! :)

  11. I am extremely behind, but I refuse to give up. If I don’t catch up, I will simply be right behind you. Thanks for the encouragement!

    1. I’m so glad to hear that you refuse to give up! Hang in there and read, read, READ! :)

      And I’ll pray, pray, PRAY!

  12. Thanks for putting this program on :D I was 2 days behind all week but got caught up yesterday.

    1. You are so welcome!
And I am so glad you are caught up! Rock on!

  13. Amy,
Thank you for posting/sharing this. I appreciate you taking the time to address those of us that feel like throwing the towel in.
My heart and prayers go out to those that are struggling right now, as I am. Please, don’t give up or give in & I promise I won’t give up or give in either. :)
    *hugs*
    Your sister in Christ,
    ~Mippy :)

    1. You’re so welcome. Thank YOU for issuing that challenge/ promise to others in your same position. :) Keep to it!

  14. I am doing great. I keep reading a head when I get a chance so that when the days come when I can’t find the time I don’t get behind. I’m in 1 Kings now and loving this challenge more and more as the days go by. I keep thinking to myself , I’m reading so fast it’s just going in one ear and out the other so to speak. But several times already there have been instances where I’ve been watching or listening to something and I go hey!! I just read about that. :) God is good. :) :)

    1. Awesome! So glad to read this! :)
