Bible in 90 Days: Week 3 Check In (And why checking in is important)

b90-check-in

Welcome to the Week 3 check in post for the Bible in 90 Days with MomsToolbox!

How is your reading coming along? As usual, please leave a note in the comments to let us know you are still with us, whether you are caught up, a little behind or flying past the rest of us.

Today is our 15th day of reading, and our 3rd weekly check in.

Please forgive me for getting this one up a little later in the day than normal. I just returned home after 3 consecutive business trips, keeping me away from home for 12 days. Each day was jam-packed with meetings and activities.

So, why is checking in important?

The first few times I read the Bible in 90 days, I was reading with Bible in 90 Days groups at church. Each week we would meet to watch a video and discuss the reading and each week we had an accountability tool: Our name tags. The Bible in 90 Days name tags had two sides: one yellow and one red. As you signed in for class each week, you would grab your name tag and put it on with the appropriate color facing away from you for all the world to see.
If you were up to date in the reading, you would wear red. If you were not up to date, you would wear the yellow showing.

I did not want to have to wear a name tag indicating that I had not the right amount, so you had better believe that I took that weekly deadline seriously! The name tags were a great motivator for me.

The weekly meetings were also a great measuring tool for me to keep me on track, because I knew I had to check in each week, I was sure to be up to date for our meetings, even if that meant sitting in my car just before our meetings to cram in that last bit of each day’s reading.

Yes, there were a few times when I did have to wear the yellow tag. I hated slipping it on and felt it was a badge of shame. Instead I found that I was surrounded by others who knew how I felt and understood the challenge to keep up with the reading. I was relieved to be met with compassion and prayer.

Checking in on MomsToolbox each week may seem like a frustrating thing to do. You may not want to take the time to leave a comment or you may not want to admit that you are behind in the reading.

The act of acknowledging where you are each week at the same time, though, can be a great tool if you see it that way.
When you check in you are giving yourself a deadline by which to be completely up to date. Your are giving yourself a goal to keep. And you are giving yourself the opportunity to be held accountable for your actions by others who are in support of your journey.

Checking in is also for the rest of the readers.
Seeing your comment, and the volumes of comments, on the check in post each Monday is a gift to those reading with you. Letting those who are also reading know where you are encourages others, whether you are behind, on track or ahead. When you are behind, there will be others praying for you, just as there will be when you are on track or ahead. The sheer volume of readers motivates many of our readers to keep on and share that energy that comes when a group joins together to accomplish a goal.

And, of course, checking in shows me that you care about the program. I, your mentors, and other volunteers, commit long hours to guiding you through reading the Bible in 90 days out of the kindness in our heart. This blog is not a business venture. The mentors are not involved in an affiliate program attached to this. When we see you check in and hear from you, it helps us get reassurance. It makes us feel great, knowing you are right there with us, reading the Word of God. With each check in we smile and our heart leaps with joy. And with each missing check in we wonder what happened and hope you are still there. We are in this for you. We want to cheer you across that finish line.

So, please, make it a point to check in this week and every Monday.

This week’s resources

Download the following five sections of You Are Here in the Bible:

To prevent you from doing research where you have questions and take away from your precious reading time, Bible in 90 Days founder Ted Cooper wrote this resource to give you a bit of perspective as to what you will encounter in this week’s reading. If you have other questions, try not to research them, but just ask God to explain when the time is right and keep reading. If you must, keep a journal of all your questions to refer to once you have completed the 90 days of reading.

This week’s reading schedule:

  • Day 15 – Deuteronomy 23:12 – Deuteronomy 34:12
  • Day 16 – Joshua 1:1 – Joshua 14:15
  • Day 17 – Joshua 15:1 – Judges 3:27
  • Day 18 – Judges 3:28 – Judges 15:12
  • Day 19 – Judges 15:13 – 1 Samuel 2:29
  • Day 20 – 1 Samuel 2:30 – 1 Samuel 15:35
  • Day 21 – 1 Samuel 16:1 – 1 Samuel 28:19

Each day’s assignment will also be posted on MomsToolbox each day as well as as on Facebook and Twitter. Some days are posted on Instagram.

You can also download the Bible in 90 Days reading schedule or, if you are using the official Bible in 90 Days Bible, you already have it marked in your Bible.

Make it a point to read every day no matter what, even if you don’t have a block of time, read something. Carry your Bible with you everywhere throughout the day until you get your reading finished. Plan on it taking about an hour to an hour and fifteen minutes per day.

Thanks so much for reading with me. Your reading encourages my reading… and the hundreds others, too, no doubt!

Soooo, ready to check in?

I would like to thank my mentor, Carey, for her encouragement to keep going even though I am so far behind! I may not finish in 90 days, but I will still cross that finish line!

    1. YAY! SO glad to read this!!!
Keep it up, though– You still can catch up, no matter how far you are back! Really.

A couple days behind checking in… oops. :)

I’m very far behind right now (I don’t even know how many days)… but still committed. I’m going to keep reading the current days reading and then go back to Exodus/Leviticus/Numbers/Deuteronomy as I have time. That way I don’t get any further behind. :)

    1. So glad to see you reading with us again! Keeping plowing through it all, girl!

Checking in! I’m late, but here. Still behind… days upon days behind. I am pretty excited to see how quickly I can catch up. This weekend I have nothing going on so I believe it will be just me and my Bible all weekend (with a few interruptions from my family).

    1. So how is your Saturday reading coming along? I pray you find the time to get caught up and hear just what He has in store for you. :)

I’m basically one day behind; and if I get to it I can get caught up by the end of the day. Loving these readings; yes some parts are harder to read than others, but I’m enjoying spending the time reading the Word of God.

    1. Fantastic! I love reading this, Mendy! Thanks for reading with me. :)

Still a day behind… I quickly realized that trying to catch up while reading through Leviticus was going to be rather difficult. Also had a crazy few days of random sleep schedules which really threw me off, but I made it work OK. I like reading right before bed, but it doesn’t always work so I am trying to fit it in when I can.

    1. I hope you are still doing well. Finding the right time can be such a challenge!

  12. I’m behind, but not giving up!

    1. you’d better not give up!! :) :)

    1. Hang in there. I hope this week brought great pockets of time for you to read. This is definitely a challenge– but you CAN do it!!

  14. I’m a few days ahead. I’m reading each chance I get because with end of school year activities as well as my own finals and graduation, I know I will face days that I can’t get the reading done.

    1. Good call, Tammy! I like how you are making time, planning ahead and taking His Word in rather than setting it aside. :)

I’m current. I’m glad we are encouraged to pray for each other & provide support. It’s hard for young parents and those still in the work force to carve out the time required to remain current. God is faithful & will make a way for all of us to be in His word. I’m grateful & very thankful to the rest of you for keeping me in prayer as well.

Good for you Robin ! I admire your spirit ! Too many folks give up and quit. As long as you keep on reading, you’ll be fine. God has promised that His word will not return void, but will accomplish the purpose for which it was sent. That means that current or not, if you stay in His word, you are in a place of blessing…. a place where God Himself will interact with you through His word. I am praying for you

I’m enjoying reading the Bible on a consistent basis but it’s amazing how quickly you can’t get off track if you miss a day. I’m going to try my best to keep at it.

I old my mentor I knew she understand the list of and…and…and… that was on our schedule this week that kept me so busy I was going to bed early just to get some rest for my weary body and mind. I am still very much enjoying the reading. Just need to catch up.
