Blogging Through the Gospels: You can only do good with Him

The reading for Sunday is John Chapter 15.

Here is what I heard:

Scripture:

John 15:4

Remain in me, and I will remain in you. No branch can bear fruit by itself; it must remain in the vine. Neither can you bear fruit unless you remain in me.

Observation:

Keep me in your life and I will stay with you. I will enable you to do good things. Without me, you are worthless, but with me you can do good things.

Application:

Without Jesus I am worthless. Nothing that I can accomplish without Him is worthwhile. With Him a part of me, I can do good things. Without Him, I cannot.

And so I must strive to keep my relationship with Him growing by reading His Word, listening to it and talking with Him about it or praying. If I don’t do those things, how can I expect to do any good?

Prayer:

Lord, thank you for living inside of me and allowing me to grow. Please keep me close and allow me to continue to hear you. When I do listen and  hear, life is so much better!

Please help all others who are yearning to hear from you to find a way to commit to reading your Word, whether that be with Bible in 90 Days or any other program.

Please also help me to resist the temptation to put off my Bible reading for ‘later’ on those days I want to sleep later or those days I am feeling so rushed and overwhelmed. Guide me in remembering this passage and instead make the decision to turn to you first. Without you, I cannot do any good. With you, I am strong and fruitful.

Thank you , Lord.

What about you? What did you see and hear in your reading of John 15?

With HIM is the only way we can do anything. Oh, to remain in Him each day and to never run ahead, lag behind, or go a different path!
