Blogging Through the Gospels: How do you hear God?

The reading for Sunday is John Chapter 8.

Scripture:

John 8:47

He who belongs to God hears what God says. The reason you do not hear is that you do not belong to God.”

Observation:

Those who belong to God hear Him.

Application:

Do you want to belong to God and hear Him?

Listen to His Son and truly invite Him into your heart and life. Then you will hear God.

If you have done this and do not hear Him, are you giving any time in your day to listen? Do you read His word and listen to what He might have for you?

This was hard for me to do regularly for awhile, but, since I started either SOAPing or participating in an intensive reading program like the Bible in 90 Days I hear Him quite often.

Prayer:

Lord, please let all who desire to hear you really hear you.

Guide them to a personal discipline where they won’t miss your messages, but instead can hear your guidance and follow it.

Thank you, Lord, for speaking to me. Please keep me devoted to listening. Thank you for still calling out to me on the days I might be tempted to skip our time together.

Do you hear God? When do you hear Him best?

Be sure to record your own SOAP observations and feel free share your own thoughts or a link to your thoughts, here, too.

We’re not qualified to judge others as we, ourselves, are sinners. That’s what I found in today’s reading. And thank you for your post. I was sad because I don’t feel like I really hear God. But then again, I don’t really take the time to listen. I read my Bible and study but never really listen. I always lead the conversation when I pray and when I study. So thank you for your post. I will work on listening to God instead of simply talking to God.

Jesus does not cast stones. He extends forgiveness instead.
