Blogging Through the Gospels: Mark 14:1-42

The reading for Thursday is Mark 14: 1-42.

When it is time to read, please start first by praying and thanking God for His many blessings. Be specific.

Record your thank you’s on paper or on the computer.

Next present your requests to Him. Ask Him for whatever you want and need. As you do, record your requests and questions on paper or on the computer.

Third, ask Him to guide you in your reading, so that you will hear his message for you today.

After you read, record your SOAP observations and then listen for five minutes. (Yes, I upped it by two minutes this time. I think you’re ready to listen a bit longer.) Set a timer and just  listen to what he might be sharing. Don’t ask. Don’t thank. Just listen. (You can pray more after you listen, if you like.)

Here is what I heard in the reading:

Worship as you can

Scripture: Mark 14:8 (partial)

She did what she could…

Observation:

This woman expressed her love and appreciation in a way she could, but not necessarily the way everyone would have expected.

Application:

He doesn’t expect each of us to worship the same way, nor does He require it. He just wants us to want to be with Him and worship in ways we can.

Prayer:

Help me to live in a way that is worshipful. Guide me in making decisions that are honoring of you.

Help those who don’t know how to worship you to find ways to express their love and appreciation for you without worrying what others will think. Thank you for accepting our love in whatever way we genuinely send it.

What about you?  How do you worship?

And what else did you see and hear in your reading of this first part of Mark?

Feel free to leave your thoughts, or a link to post with your thoughts, in the comments. If you do link a post, please include a link in your own post back to this post so your readers can see what others had to say, as well, and potentially join us.

  1. Mark 14:31

The disciples were over-confident in the strength of their convictions and their ability to stand firm under persecution. They were not (yet) aware that they could stand, not in their own strength, but only by the presence and power of God’s Spirit in them.

Also they didn’t yet understand complete surrender to God’s plan. They still had a vision of how they thought things should happen and they were not yet ready to surrender that vision and accept God’s plan instead of their own.

    True Strength

Beautiful story in this chapter about the woman who gave her gift…I love how Jesus understood what was in her heart, even when no one else did.
