Blogging Through the Gospels: Mark 4

The reading for Monday is Mark Chapter 4.

When it is time to read, please start first by praying and thanking God for His many blessings. Be specific.

Record your thank you’s on paper or on the computer.

Next present your requests to Him. Ask Him for whatever you want and need. As you do, record your requests and questions on paper or on the computer.

Third, ask Him to guide you in your reading, so that you will hear his message for you today.

After you read, record your SOAP observations and then listen for FIVE minutes. (Yes, I upped it by two minutes this time. I think you’re ready to listen a bit longer.) Set a timer and just  listen to what he might be sharing. Don’t ask. Don’t thank. Just listen. (You can pray more after you listen, if you like.)

Here is what I heard in the reading:

Scripture: Mark 4:8

Still other seed fell on good soil. It came up, grew and produced a crop, multiplying thirty, sixty or even a hundred times.”

Observation:

That which is grown on good soil will grow strong.

Application:

How is my soil, or my foundation for hearing and taking action from hearing God’s word? And how is the soil of my children?

If I, or my children, don’t have a good base for hearing God’s Word and letting it take root and grow, it won’t take root and grow.

I need to be sure I have good soil, that my heart is clear of the garbage and clutter that will keep me from embracing God’s messages and allowing them to grow inside of me and my children.

Prayer:

Lord, please guide me in cultivating good soil, a good foundation for listening to You and responding to you fully. I feel like I am growing your Word, but I also know that I have a lot of distractions along the way.

Please, Lord, guide me in weeding out what takes me away from you. Help me to keep my soil clean, fertilized and rock and weed-free, so that your Word will grow. And help me to do the same for my children.

Thank you, Lord for allowing your seed to be cast my way. And thank you for the soil you have given me.

What about you? What did you see and hear in your reading of Mark 4?

  1. I had to catch up today! :)

Mark 2 – The church is supposed to be a Hospital (for the sick and injured) not a Health Spa (for the entitled Christian)!

Mark 3 – There is an unforgivable sin … but I have NOT committed it!

Mark 4 – God created me, and all of His people, to be sharers of the light within us … not hoarders of that light! Anytime I hide my light, due to shyness, embarrassment, selfishness, etc., I am outside His will and useless to Him!
