Blogging Through the Gospels: Matthew 15

The reading for Monday is Matthew Chapter 15.

When it is time to read, please start first by praying and thanking God for His many blessings. Be specific.

Next present your requests to Him. Ask Him for whatever you want and need.

Third, ask Him to guide you in your reading, so that you will hear his message for you today.

After you read, record your SOAP observations and then listen for three minutes. Set a timer and just  listen to what he might be sharing. Don’t ask. Don’t thank. Just listen. (You can pray more after you listen, if you like.)

Samantha Kelly is back as guest SOAP’er again.

Here is what she heard in the reading:

How Close Is Your Heart?

Scripture: Matthew 15:8-9

“This people honors me with their lips, but their heart is far from me; in vain do they worship me, teaching as doctrines the commandments of men.”

Observation:

Has anyone else noticed that Christ speaks a lot about the difference between our words and our hearts?

Application:

We cannot give our Lord lip-service. Who knows us better than He does? If we are to truly live the Christian faith, we must really have our heart in it.

Our words will eventually betray us anyway: “You brood of vipers! How can you speak good, when you are evil? For out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks.” Matthew 12:34

Prayer:

Father in Heaven, be with me in my walk with you. Keep my heart with you always, and help my actions reflect Your will, not our own. May I always be growing, dying to self, and pressing on to the goal. Amen

Sam is a happily wed, stay at home mother of 6. She can be found on her blog, The Kelley Eight, where she shares thoughts about home education, the Christian walk, homemaking, and maintaining weight loss success.

What about you? What did you see and hear in your reading of Matthew 15? Please share with the rest of us, if you are comfortable doing so. Feel free to leave your thoughts, or a link to post with your thoughts, in the comments. If you do link a post, please include a link in your own post back to this post so your readers can see what others had to say, as well, and potentially join us.

  1. I was drawn to the same Scripture. I recently heard a comment on The Message that has stayed in my mind – “Man hears what you say. God hears why you say it!” That continues to become more real to me as I go through this study and see reinforcements of the concept often. Jesus is far more concerned about the condition of our hearts than about anything else!

    Where is Your Heart?

  2. I love how the Canaanite woman clung to Jesus and knew He could heal her daughter. She had faith in Jesus’ goodness and His ability to do it. I pray that I will have the same faith as she did.

  3. Here is a link to my post on Matthew 15. Today I was impressed on the importance of maintaining pure thoughts.
