Cycling and Exercise Update

Just thought I’d give y’all an update after my misery-filled post from Sunday.

After my not-so-stunning ride on Sunday, I have jumped back into gear. For real.

On  Monday I rode around the neighborhood for about 45 minutes, just to get a bit of saddle time. I will admit that it took a good five minutes for me to put any weight on my bottom on that bicycle seat. YOWZA. It hurt. It still hurts a bit. But I had to do it. I think most of training is just getting your bottom used to sitting on that seat for so long!

Also, back when I jumped into the hot yoga thing in January, my dear friend who told me all about express hot yoga but never took a class with me although she was supposed to be my accountability partner, started singing the praises of KettleWorx and the kettleball workout. Last week, when we returned from Dubai, I asked her if she was still going strong with the kettlebell thing and she said she was. So I jumped in and ordered the workout set and vowed to do it three times a week. (Each workout is only 20 minutes!)

My Kettleworx package arrived Monday evening.

I gave the first workout a try this morning. And yes, it was really only 20 minutes and yes, it was a tough workout that left me challenged and energized.

At first I was thinking “Oh, this is fantastic! I love this! I am going to pack my kettlebell for our spring break trip and for the Disney Social Media Moms trip. I  can do this!”

Then I started to get tired and my thoughts turned more toward this: “Push-ups? What?! I don’t know if I like this.” And, “Oh my gosh, I can’t hold my arms out any longer.”

But then I started thinking that I can workout hard for 20 minutes knowing that it will yield results if I stick it out. And I just kept going, listening to the instructions, watching and going, going, going. And I am so glad I did. I want to see results. And I am only going to see results if I put in the effort.

(Hmmm…  Does any of this sound like my Bible in 90 Days pep talks? If you want to finish, you have to stick to it!)

So I am going to stick to it.

Sure, I could put it off in the name of just getting my cycling self ready. But why wait?

Here’s the plan for now until the week before the MS 150:

  • On the bike 2-4 times a week (possibly 2 outdoor, one spinning and one session of my  bike on the trainer indoors)
  • KettleWorx workout 3 times a week
  • Hot Yoga once or twice a week

Then, the week leading up to the ride, I’ll do lighter, easier cycling and do the KettleWorx stuff earlier in the week to allow for rest.

If I hold this up, I will definitely be ready for the MS 150 and feel pretty good about the rest of me by then, too.

I want to enjoy that ride. And I’m not waiting on the other workout because of my cycling.

Here goes!!!
