What are some of the fun things to do? What were your favorites? Why? What ages would these spots appeal to?

We love to snorkel in Akumal with the sea turtles.  It is amazing.  There are great beaches with waves to play on.

We have visited the Tulum ruins which my kids found a bit boring but the beach there is fabulous.

We also drove inland to Coba to visit the ruins there and I would highly recommend it. You can rent bicycles or even a driver to cycle you around (great for grandparents and small kids)  The bigger kids were able to climb to the top of an enormous Mayan pyramid.  There was a fun zip line activity outside of the ruins where you zip line over a lake of alligators.

We visit some of the Cenotes which are underground caverns filled with fresh water.  There are many but a favorite is Gran Cenote.  My kids have visited a spider monkey habitat and sat in cages and had spider monkey play with them.

There are neat outdoor adventure parks.  We love Hidden Worlds with repelling, zip-lines, a bicycle through the rainforest canopy, etc.

What family-friendly places to eat would you recommend? Anything special about them?

There are some VERY casual places in Tulum on the main street through town.  We tend to pick up food to take home.  One is Cowboy Chicken for whole rotissere type chickens, HC Monterrey is wonderful for fajitas, especially beef.  They call it arrachero steak and that is a casual place that would be great with kids.

What hotels or other places to stay can you recommend?

The private home we rented was on Solimon bay and we had a cook and house cleaner.  This was a great way for extended family to all stay in one location.  I would highly recommend.

If adults can fit in a date night without the kids while there, what would you suggest?

There are some fun restaurants in Tulum in the area called Tulum beach.  One is Mezzanine that has great Thai food and I believe live music on Fri. nights.  There are others on the strip too.

Thanks for sharing your Travel Tale with us! Tulum sounds like a fantastic place to visit with family! Has anyone else enjoyed a vacation there? If so, please do tell!
