Do you make money doing the laundry?

Today is big money day for me and the dryer!

I found not one (which would be cause for enough celebration) but TWO $5 bills in the dryer on the last load!

I’m feeling pretty rich right now. And a tad guilty.

What should I do with it? Give it back to the child who left it in his pocket? Go get some ice cream? Put it in a rainy day fund?

What do YOU do with found money in the dryer or any part of the laundry process??

I don’t check pockets when I do the laundry, and I keep what I find. Every once in a while if I’m feeling magnanimous and I’m 100% sure who it belongs to, I’ll give it back. But mostly I announce, “Hey! I got paid to day!”

We got to keep it when I was a kid :) and I still do as an adult..although since I mainly just do my own laundry these days it is mine already lol

It’s usually my husband who leaves money in his pockets and I pretty much always keep it! ;)

I’d put it in my pocket. If, and only if, they come asking for it would I give it back. And that would only happen the first time. Next time, it’s yours! I take that stand even with my husband. Any money found while doing chores, making beds, vacuuming the couch, sweeping the floor, is rewarded to the one doing the chores. Might be enough encouragement for them to help out around the house as well.

I say first offense they get the money back. But only by earning it by doing some age appropriate chore. Any offense after that the money is yours. They need to learn the value of it and this will help.

I don’t think I ever found anything but change and I definitely kept that. As soon as my kids were old enough, they did their own laundry so I didn’t have an opportunity to keep their cash. I probably would have returned it, though, if I knew who it belonged to.

I tell them to empty their pockets or whatever money I find is mine!
