Don’t mess with the false stuff

Scripture: 1 Timothy 1:3-4

3As I urged you when I went into Macedonia, stay there in Ephesus so that you may command certain men not to teach false doctrines any longer 4nor to devote themselves to myths and endless genealogies. These promote controversies rather than God’s work-which is by faith.

Observation: Stick to faith in Jesus Christ and don’t be distracted by other beliefs/ false doctrines.

Application: When I was working my way back into a churched life, I wanted to be “intelligent” about it and explore other options before I completely “bought into” Christianity again. But nothing made sense. Nothing. Any other faith I dipped into didn’t jive and even Christianity started to not make sense. I was so distracted and frustrated and wanted to see all the facts laid out so I could make the right decision.

And then I decided to just read. And pray. And jump back into Christianity. I worked my way through studies, asked questions (and always felt like the clueless one in the room) and eventually was presented with the Bible in 90 Days program.

Reading at such a break-neck speed there isn’t time to question. I just immersed myself in the Word. And the word immersed me. Suddenly faith made perfect sense and I grew closer and closer to truth, without having to ask the questions and need the answers. All I needed to know was in faith.

Prayer: Lord, thank you for calling me back. And for allowing me to understand that all I need to know and have is faith. You will fill in the blanks. And through faith, all those questions will be answered in the ways they need to be. Thank you for stopping me from devoting myself to the research of false doctrines and mythology. Thank you for showing me the way, the truth and the light. Please keep that light shining within me and enable me to shine it on others (whomever you want me to).
