Esther 5 SOAP: Don’t rush your requests

Today our reading in Esther is Esther Chapter 5.

Here is what I heard using the SOAP devotional method:

Scripture: Esther 5: 8

If the king regards me with favor and if it pleases the king to grant my petition and fulfill my request, let the king and Haman come tomorrow to the banquet I will prepare for them. Then I will answer the king’s question.

Observation:

Esther does not jump in and ask for what she wants, instead she remains patient and invites the king to not one but two banquets before she makes her request known.

Application:

Esther understands that her request is a weighty one and she prays about it, fasts and asks others to do the same. Then she builds the king up to hearing the request. Her approach was well thought out and not rushed.

I could take a lesson in patience here.

The things I manage and request in my life aren’t nearly as weighty, but it is still appropriate to go about asking my husband in a respectful way, not jumping in or demanding things.

Prayer:

Lord, as you know, sometimes I can get a little impatient. Please forgive me for that both in making requests to you, my husband and also others. Guide me as I make my requests to remember to go about things properly and not be demanding. Thank you, Lord.

no need to categorize *husband* as the important person here. This tenet encompasses ALL of the humans and even companion animals in our lives. Patience is such a virtue.
