Houstonians: Come clap, cheer and welcome military heroes

Nearly 200 war heroes will be flown in to Houston George Bush Airport this Friday, May 20, beginning at 8:30 a.m., and you can come welcome them Texas and USA- style with waving flags and red, white and blue.

The greeting party will take place in Terminal C’s baggage claim, according to a post on fly2Houston.com, the airport’s official website. The service men and women will be taken to  Warriors Weekend , an annual fishing event in Port O’Connor, Texas for wounded military personnel.

The airport celebration and welcome is being coordinated by Moms USA.

I know I will be there, and my kids will miss school that morning to join in the welcome and shout their own cheers of thanks. What better civics lesson than to let them say thank you to those whose efforts keep us safe and free? These wounded heroes have already given so much so that I can worship as I choose and move about in our country freely. Their work keeps us free and they have paid a high price for it.

If you’re in Houston, why don’t you join us in the welcome?

We’ll be the ones in the red, white and blue, clapping and cheering wildly. I might also be crying a bit, too.

What about you?
