I finally tasted Crockpot victory

As I have mentioned, I am one of the very few Crockpot challenged. I wanted to succeed at being a slow-cooker mama, I just couldn’t seem to get it right. Until now.

Since I became blissfully married nearly 10 years ago, my slow-cooker meat always tasted like paper with sauce on it. What happened to the juicy days of tender meats and delicious dinners?

After a little research I was lead to A Year of Crockpotting, and I learned that my crockpot was cooking too quickly.

Those tender, juicy crockpot meals were prepared on a hand-me-down slow cooker that I handed down when I got a brand new one after getting married. The new ones were hotter, and therefore by following many slow-cooker recipes, my meat was being overcooked! I should have kept the old, slow one!

But that one is gone. Someone else is loving it, I just know it.

And through the years I have searched for the solution, spending lots of money on new slowcookers.

I don’t think this is even all of them. I think I’ve given away one or two. I just couldn’t abandon the dream.

Well, did you see that black beauty on the top left in the photo? The six quart Rival Crockpot from Target?

That sweetie is my answer! It has a temperature probe and it is helping me achieve crockpot perfection!

Yesterday I loaded up the crock and stuck the probe in a chicken breast.

And last night my husband finally commented that I had finally reached the right consistency in the slow-cooker. And he was right! It’s finally working for me!!

Wooo-Hooo! Guess it’s time to subscribe to the crockpotting blog…  I can finally join the club!

And if you have any can’t miss crockpot recipes, I’d love to hear the details. I’m ready to slow cook!!

Too funny. But congratulations on find the perfect crock! It just amazes me what you girls go through. My grandmother cooked everything in a huge pot in her oven! AND she was the BEST cook in town!

  4. Congratulations! I so need a new crockpot, mine is way too small. Oh and I have some great crock pot recipes on my blog!

  5. Thanks Amy. I had to chuckle because your post was a day late and now a few dollars short. Grin. My pot is old. I have had it for years. Since my early out of college days…mmm that would be back in the mid 90’s so it is old. Maybe I am just plain challenged. Grin. Thanks for pointing me to one to buy though as well as giving me a laugh that I am not the only one mystified by the slow cooker.

  6. That picture cracks me up… or should I say crocks me up :)
Let me guess what we are all getting for Christmas….
I like the little one in the front (perfect for dips and parties) and that fancy shmancy looking white one in the 5 o’clock position.

  7. Wow! That is a lot of crockpots! I have not achieved success yet with my crockpot. I think I need a new one. Got one to spare?

  8. Yea! Enjoy your crockpot cooking. I love my crockpot on low I can’t remember the brand but it has a removable crock for ease of cleaning.

  9. Wow, that’s a lot of crockpots! You could have a crockpot yard sale, now! I really like mine that has the removable crock. It’s so much easier to wash than the one that didn’t come out.

  10. We live out of my crockpot. I get a lot of recipes from the Fix It and Forget It books. :)
