Love and forgiveness for all

Scripture: Luke 23:34

Jesus said, “Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they are doing.” And they divided up his clothes by casting lots.

Observation: As Jesus is being crucified, he asks God to forgive the very men who were putting him to death. And as he is doing this, they have no idea and continue to treat him terribly.

Application: Wow. What amazing love Jesus has! Here he is, being tortured and mocked, and yet he extends love and requests forgiveness for his tormenters. He knows what is really going on and recognizes the big picture. That takes love and supreme understanding.

Prayer: Lord, thank you for your love for me always. Thank you for your forgiveness of all my sins. And thank you for extending this love to all who wish to be with you. Yes, my worldly, broken mind often gets confused by this and wants to justify some of my sins, or even think that my sins aren’t as bad as others. But you alone are the judge. And sin is sin. And you will forgive me if I just ask. Thank you, Lord for that. Thank you for loving me as I disobey and hurt you… and for gently restoring me as I repent.
