Choosing what is important: Luke 10

If you are reading through Luke with me this month, today we are reading Luke chapter 10.

I apologize for not posting Luke 9 yesterday. This week has been much fuller than I anticipated it being and, unfortunately, posting my devotional yesterday was cut. I read, but I didn’t post, and I am so sorry about that. And that so beautifully leads to what I heard today…

Scripture: Luke 10:42

but only one thing is needed. Mary has chosen what is better, and it will not be taken away from her.

Observation:

Mary understands where her priorities should be and is also acting on that knowledge.

Application:

I want to do too much. I want to please people and help people and do fun things and all too often I bring way too much upon myself. I need to stop, re-evaluate, determine what to cut and then make changes.

I need to choose what is better.

Prayer:

Lord, I need you. I need to know what to cut out and I need the courage to cut it out. Please guide me. Please let me see what is needed and work towards that, dropping the other things that should be dropped.

I am overwhelmed. I don’t want to be. And I don’t think you want me to be either. Please help me.

I had also fallen behind this week because my daughter was going through a situation at school that just consumed our home life. But I am caught up – thank God! Sorry you are overwhelmed, but you have chosen the good thing! Spend some quiet time with Jesus and rest in Him!

I’m so sorry that you’re overwhelmed! I honestly hate when I get to that point and you’re right, I’m sure God doesn’t want us there either. I’ll be praying for you :) I actually chose the same verses today. Here’s mine: http://jewelsgems4.blogspot.com/2011/12/luke-10-choose-what-is-better.html

By the way, I missed my study all together yesterday. ‘sigh’

      1. Hang in there! And thanks for your prayers.

  3. Why do we take what is better from ourselves? We so often get busy and neglect our time to be still and in prayer, to read and meditate on God’s Word and ask the Holy Spirit to reveal to us what is needed in that scripture for us on that day. I think it’s great that you got your time in yesterday with the Word even though time was too short for posting. Thanks for encouraging so many to keep reading every day.

    1. Thank you so much for your encouragement!
