Memories to Share: Memory #13

memories-to-share-post

My grandmother passed away this summer after 90 years of blessing those around her. She’s actually the inspiration for this whole series.

Now, before you get this image of mild-mannered, quiet church lady who smiled sweetly all of the time, baked and all of that stuff “blessing’” and “grandmother” in the same sentence may conjure up for you, stop. Think again.

Here’s what my brother said about her on his Facebook page just after her death:

“She lived every moment she was given. She rode a mechanical bull @ 90, got a tattoo in her 80’s, and always told you what was on her mind. “

How’s that for a grandmother?

Yep, I have lots of great memories of my times with Mammy, and great memories of my times with my other grandparents. If I don’t share them, though, I risk them being lost. And if I don’t ask my own children about their own thoughts of their grandparents, I miss the opportunity to see my own parents and in-laws through the eyes of their grandchildren– and what a wonderful perspective that can be.

To that end, I now present Week 13’s Memory to Share:

Week 13’s prompt is:

Tell about an experience with a grandparent. How many of your grandparents did you know well?

What is your story?

Tell about one of those things on this week’s Memories to Share sheet and keep it to share later or share it tonight over dinner. You may also share here in the comments, if you’d like.

Thank you for joining me on my series, Memories to Share. It is my hope this series will guide you in recording family stories and personal memories to share with loved ones, as well as help you to ask others to collect Memories to Share with you someday.
