When I was fresh out of college a MUCH older man asked me out on a date.
Of course I wanted to impress him, so when my friend came over to help me pick what to wear on that big first date, we also talked about what I should order to drink.
I wanted to be more sophisticated, so we decided on wine… Never mind that I hadn’t had much wine ever, it just seemed like the right answer. And white seemed much more feminine that red, so I went with chardonnay. (This was after we debated chablis and chardonnay. I can’t believe I am admitting this here.)
Off we went, I ordered wine, and had a wonderful date. I can still remember that cold, sweet, fruity taste in my mouth when I took the first sip of that chardonnay. I’m sure it was the house pour at the pub, and I liked it. And I liked him, too.
After that I tried all sorts of wines with him, trying to figure out what I liked and what I didn’t (and how much we liked each other) and he kept drinking his beer.
Eventually, though, he ventured out and came around to trying wine, too… red mostly.
Now, here we are, married, drinking all sorts of wines together, celebrating three children, winery visits in three countries (Chile, New Zealand and the USA and no, there isn’t any relationship between the winery visits and children), and even launching a wine blog!
I just have to laugh at the things we’ve learned and the things ahead. It has always been an adventure, I assure you! And I’m looking forward to you joining us… at least virtually.
So, what about you… How or why did you start drinking wine?
PS: Okay, he really wasn’t that much older. But, at that point in my life, at 6 years older, he seemed much older.
