Proverbs in 31 Days: Day 5, Proverbs 5: Do What Needs to be Done

Proverbs in 31 Days with MomsToolbox

We’ve made it to the weekend!

Sometimes that is GREAT for me for reading the Bible and praying. Sometimes that makes it more challenging. Whatever your case may be, I do hope you are getting into a reading and listening groove as we make our way into the Proverbs together.

Today we are on Proverbs 5. Here’s what grabbed me:

Today’s Reading: Proverbs 5

Using the SOAP devotional method, here’s what I heard this time…

Scripture: Proverbs 5:23

He dies for lack of discipline,

and because of his great folly he is led astray.

Observation:

I believe that this chapter covers much more than what I first think of when I hear adultery. I think it also covers anything that causes us to wander away from our most primary true love: God.

That being said, this is what I observed in Proverbs 5:23:

Do what needs to be done and don’t allow yourself to be distracted or else destruction (and frustration) will come your way.

Application:

Hmmm. It seems as though there is definitely a theme here for me these first few days.

Today I was reminded, yet again, to stay focused on my path. I need to take that one step further, though, and not just see what I should be doing but also have the discipline to do it, even when I don’t want to do it right then.

He knows I’ve got a lot going on, with lots of areas of responsibility. I think that He has been telling me that He will guide my path if I take the time to listen, that I need to keep myself focused on that path as He reveals it and now, today, that I need to have discipline in doing what I am directed.

Prayer:

Lord, thank you so much for meeting me right here, where I am in life.

I love hearing your Word and knowing that you care for me in the big and the little, and that you want what is good for me.

Sometimes I struggle with discipline and don’t want to get everything done that I should. And then I get frustrated with myself. Or, I want to do everything and cannot get it all done and then I get frustrated with myself.

Thank you for these messages reminding me that you will help me to see what to do. I  just need to listen, stay focused and then follow through with those things.

Please fill my head with your Word when I stray, when I get distracted. I want to follow you. I want to follow your plan.

I love you and I trust you.

Thank you.

Amen.
