Psalms SOAP: Calling out for Him

Day 27 of the Psalms in 60 Days

Today’s Reading: Psalms 69-70

Scripture: Psalm 69:16

Answer me, O Lord, out of the goodness of your love;

in your great mercy turn to me.

Observation: Lord, out of your wonderful grace, please let me know that you hear me.

Application: I think today’s reading tells of one who is feeling quite over-run, almost to the point of desperation. He is calling out to the Lord, telling Him how wonderful and powerful He is, and then begs to hear back and receive protection and reassurance from Him.

Sometimes I feel as though nothing is going right, that I just can’t pull myself out of swampy weeds that seem to bind me with tasks, frustrations and nagging evil.

I don’t feel like I have a lot of enemies, but I can still appreciate the frustration here.

And I admire how the psalmist doesn’t give up on God, even though he might feel as though he hasn’t heard from Him. Instead he asks for an answer, and honors God in his request for one.

Prayer: Lord, please lift those who feel as though they are lost in a pit of despair with no hope to reach up to you. And help them to hear your answer and your feel your love in a very real, undeniable way.

Thank you, Lord, for answering prayer and allowing me to see and experience your glory so often.

Please always stay with me and allow me to hear your sweet guidance. I sure need it. Don’t let me sink too far into despair. But if I ever do, guide me in remembering this passage so that I will still remember to call out to you.

Thank you, Father.
