Psalms SOAP: I think it’s okay to be angry

Day 32 of the Psalms in 60 Days

Today’s Reading: Psalms 79-80

Scripture: Psalms 79:12

Pay back into the laps of our neighbors seven times
the reproach they have hurled at you, O Lord.

Observation: Make those who have insulted you and have done wrong have to pay, Lord.

Application: First, let me say that I do not have any anger bubbling inside of me right now. But this verse still popped out at me for some reason.

I think God is saying “Yes, I understand that at times you will be angry. When others oppose you and share their hatred for me or go against you it will make you mad. And it is okay to cry out to me for help.”

Now, what God does with that is, well, up to Him. But I think He is saying, “Cry out to me! I know how it feels to be wronged. I understand and I love you.”

So if you are angry about something or someone,  cry out to Him. Let Him know how you feel.

And then let Him handle it.

Get out your frustration by sharing with the Lord. And then move on as best you can.

Prayer: Lord, I pray today for those harboring resentment and anger today. Please, Lord, guide them into crying out to you. Hear their prayers, the big and small. And then, Lord, comfort those who are feeling wronged and those who have been wronged. Let them feel your arms wrapped around them. Give them the strength they need to continue as you would have them.

Thank you, Lord, for being in charge, even when we don’t understand.

And thank you, Lord for allowing us to cry out to You.

One response to “Psalms SOAP: I think it’s okay to be angry”

  1. I completely agree that it is okay to be angry…God just says that in our anger we do not sin. Letting anger turn to bitterness, resentment, causing us to say mean things, etc. is when anger becomes unacceptable to God. Enjoying the Psalms with you !!
